Would any of you undo the Romanov trade ?

Nobody would say it's 'still a good trade.'

There's a big difference between making it at the time and making it knowing what we know now.
When can you make a trade with hindsight? That makes no sense at all.

It’s a bad trade now, and it was a bad trade then. Dach was already an underperforming enigma with consistency issues and a concerning injury history by that point.

Btw, your exact words about it the other night was “great trade”.

It was.. turning a redundant left shot defenseman into a potential top 6 center with Dach's size and skill combo is a great trade.

Two major knee injuries ruined what was a very promising start with the Habs.

It is what it is.

Yes - they took a gamble and it didn't work out.
That's life and I believe if Dach didn't get injured he would have been a stud 2C so I don't blame them for making trade.

Right, a 'great trade' at the time.

You can trade Slafkovski for McDavid and it's a great trade. If McDavid gets hit by a bus it doesn't change the fact that it was a great move.

There's no way to predict his knees would get wrecked. You can't predict that stuff.

In hindsight absolutely. There is no debate there lol

Without hindsight? Id probably still not do it. I wasn't a fan of the Dach trade at all when it happened.

Idk about that. It seems like CHI knew something was up. Whether that was just them being unhappy with his progress, or something more, who can say for sure.

But one thing is for certain; he had a troubling injury history already back then, and he was not progressing. Those are big red flags that the Habs apparently ignored, or overlooked at the very least.

I maintain that it was a bad trade from the start, but agree to disagree, I guess.

Nazar was never in the Habs plans. It was no-name pick #13 when the deal was done. Habs did not trade Romanov for Nazar, they traded Romanov for Dach.
I don’t think it was like that. I’d have to check for sure, but iirc the trade happened right before they were slated to pick and Nazar was on the board and was the obvious pick. It didn’t happen months before the draft or something like you’re trying to make it seem.

I don't agree that it was a "great trade at the time". It was a fun idea but doesn't mean it was "great". It's very possible Dach still would have sucked if he was healthy.

We can't undo it, and it's not healthy to revisit pas choices, for anything in life.

It happened before the 4th selection was made, some people thought we traded up to get Wright.

the trade was announced prior to Wright being selected by Seattle - so btw 3rd and 4th pick.. This whole Nazar comp is negligible.

that's what I was expecting - some trade to nab Wright at #4. Dach was really never on my radar, I was neutral on his abilities, but to trade a #13 pick for a legit prospect (at the time) to become a 2C was a calculated risk. It didn't work out - and while Dach has shown he's not a very good Centre, I've seen some glimpses of his potential - which if he has it in him to effing work hard, he could have a good career as a 3rd line winger.

It was settled before the draft starts or very early in the draft.

In hindsight the trade looks bad, but I think we had to make the deal at the time. We had a bunch of LD players coming up, and Romanov wasn't a particularly special player. We were looking to fill a hole in our lineup - a big skilled center - that had been hard to fill for years. Dach was available and appeared to be what we were looking for. The injuries didn't help, but the swing just didn't land where we wanted it.

Romanov is nothing special, but Nazar looks pretty solid. What's done is done. Hughes flopped this one but he didn't trade a Serg for Drouin or Subban for an injured Weber. Not sure how they replace Dach in the summer,

Easy to say yes right now Romanov is doing well, Nazar is doing well and Dach lost all is mojo. but honestly Dach had the most upside and even had flashes were he was our best and most dominant player just have to hope he can bounce back..
