I'm just pumping tires to see whats the opinion of Habs fans toward Romanov.

Would you undo that trade if it was possible (which isn't, but fantasy wise)

As much as I like Hutson and Guhle, I hate watching our Dsquad aside of these two.

Carrier has helped us a lot but he is limited in his physicality and skills. I'm not a fan of Struble either, every time he touch the puck its a 10 rounds fight. Savard is nice on the PK but slow as f*** and play older than his age. He looks 38 out there.

Matheson is a world class athlete. Top notch skater, thats it. If he wasn't an extraordinary athlete, he wouldn't play in the top hockey league.

Its just food for thoughts. I liked the way Romanov played the game. Any of you miss that player ?

It was a calculated risk, which I think I would have made in that same context. So far, it hasn't worked out but Dach still has a year to prove himself, which, if all goes right could still happen.

It will be interesting to see if Dach is used as a trade chip, but I doubt he holds a lot of value these days. Young-ish, big centres aren't easy to find, though, so you never know...

Would I undo it today? Sure.

But you can't judge the trade made then with today's information. It was a good trade then, we paid from a position of strength for a position where we were weak. It just didn't work out, in (big) part because of injuries.

EDIT I'd undo it, but the fact is we don't need Romanov. Huston-Guhle-Xhekaj-Struble-Engstrom is a good enough left side. We need RD.

It's not like Dach career his ended, there is still time with him, and we are in no rush to trade him, hell if we can't land a legit top 6 C I might try him with Demidov and let's say Anderson and drop Laine to the bottom 6

I would still make the trade at the time not knowing what would happen, but with a crystall ball, no chance

Romanov was traded for draft pick #13. We could have drafted Rutger McGoarty or Nathan Gaucher or someone else. But we then traded the pick.

I still think the trade was good. We didn’t need Romanov. Our issue on D have evolved since that trade almost 3 years ago. Reinbacher injury, trading away Kovacevic for peanuts, Mailloux and Baron not developing well, and Xhekaj missing just a little something something.

I wouldn't undo it, we have too many LDs as it is. With the benefit of hindsight I would target someone that isn't Dach, obviously.

I'd undo the part of it where we traded the Nazar pick
I was more excited about the pick than I was for Dach. But I don't think I would have made that trade, big gamble.

I really like Struble and we have a lot of LD though. That was probably the reasoning behind that trade.

There's still hope for Mailloux but I never understood the Barron trade, I thought we could have got so much more for Lehkonen.
Never been a Dach fan, I loved Romanov and I would have kept him or package him in a better trade than Dach
I was so afraid they would try to trade Caufield and that pick to grab a RHD in the top 5. Pretty sure NJ would have considered it.

Yes, but only because of the injuries. If Dach had stayed healthy, no.

I still hope Dach can come back. He's still young.

Hutson and Guhle would still be our two best LDs. Anyways, what's done is done. You have to take risks.

I don't miss Romanov at all despite him being a solid player for the isles.

Romanov is an average sized defensive top 4 D and Dach is a 6'4 fwd with power and skill to his game, which is very hard to find.

At the very worst Dach ends up a middle 6 fwd with size and skill, but I don't 100% write him off as a top 6 player yet.

I don't think Romanov would become different than what we saw of him. Which was decent. I mean I liked him but his ceiling was limited. And I still see a potential in Dach. What we saw of him the year he played with Suz and CC, I still think he can repeat it. The key was he was physical and that helped him in all the other elements of his game. But injuries seem to have made him shy in that department. I think guys like him and Slaf, it's hard to insert into their brains that they have to be physical to be effective.
