After hearing and watching video on G getting cut last night, I started to think about devastating injuries to Flyers over the years, then to the worst most gruesome in the NHL/and or world, and since I love lists I will ask: in a top 5 format which we're the most devastating injuries to Flyer players over the years?
Most devastating injuries overall NHL/World?
And most gruesome NHL/World

Thanks in advance for playing along!!!

Clint Malarchuk got his neck sliced with a skate blade back in the day. It's easily the most gruesome in the history of the league & quite possibly in all sports.

or Bernie Parent taking a stick to the eyeball, or Primeau or Pronger or Lindros having their brains turned to mush

I was watching this live on TV

changed the channel to wrestling to see this happen

that's a damaged vertebrae and spinal shock

I remember watching that with my Dad, that to me was shocking the way Petr hit the ice, on a side note one of my favorite Flyers teams was that one, Podien is one of my all time favorite Flyers, still have his #25 jersey!!!

Swiss hockey league:

Ronny Keller:

2nd Swiss league. Ronny Keller will be paralyzed for his whole life after a hit which sent him head first into the boards.

Michel Zeiter:

Got his throat cut by a skate. Damage to the trachea and the carotid artery. Looked very similar to the Malarchuk injury, but was supposedly even worse. However he returned to hockey after a few months. No video available

Frederic Rothen:

Slapshot directly into his mouth by Goran Bezina (who has probably one of the hardest shots world-wide)

I don't think anything has or, hopefully, will ever be as gruesome as Malarchuk. It looked like something out of a gore movie but it happend live on television. He had to tell the trainer to get him off the ice so his mother didn't see him die on tv. It doesn't get much worse than that. Thank god he was on the side of the ice wear the exit was and had a military trained medic nearby.

My top 3 would have to be the Pronger slapshot to the eye, mostly due to his reaction. Then the slapper that Lappy took to the eye (or both of them). The one that tops it all that I'm not too sure would count is the skate that severed Pat Dapuzzo's nose almost clean off. I know he was a linesman and not a player but it happened during a Flyers game and that was straight up scary.

Not that it pertains to this specifically but since we're talking about him. That's not the last thing Malarchuk has had to deal with that was that urgent and life threatening. In 2008 while cleaning his 22 caliber rifle he accidentally shot himself in the face.

Yep. Zednik was knicked by Olli Jokinen. Malarchuk had his throat slit straight across. That was GRUESOME to watch.

Actually, the two injuries were the same. Both had a carotid artery severed. The only difference was one was the external CA and the other was the internal CA. They're both just branches of the same common CA, however. It's a bit scary how both were practically the same injury and I remember hearing about how traumatic it was for Malarchuk to see Zednik's injury.

I'm glad Malarchuk was okay after this and still alive, but how can you be that dumb to clean a gun with live ammunition in it?

Police listed it as accidental under suspicious circumstances. More recently Malarchuk has been diagnosed with severe depression. It's possible it was a suicidal attempt.
