I'm talking about guys whose role was to fight. They did it regularly and regularly lost. Keith Magnuson who played for the Chicago Blackhawks from 1969-1980 gets my vote. Every off season he'd take some kind of lessons (boxing, karate, judo, etc.) or fitness program to improve his fighting ability, and continue to get whupped. He was a very gritty and willing combatant that could never seem to win a fight.

Bryan Allen early in his career with the Canucks tried to goon it up on several occasions but was thrashed pretty bad whenever he did. Brad May was also a terrible fighter during his second tour of duty with Vancouver.

Steve Webb was another willing punching bag for a couple of seasons.

Steve Webb was huge in the one NYI v. Leafs playoff series before the lockout. Hit everything and "Steve Webb" chants echoed through Nasseau. Was the first and last I had ever heard of him.

He did play 321 games in the NHL and he had 55 fights. I think he lost them all. :)

Heh, he was the one I thought of too!

I never saw him play but I had a VHS of Bruins fights and he always got his ass kicked.

Tough to disagree with.

For a guy that fought a lot Matthew Barnaby was an absolute punching bag. Dropyourgloves.com has a list of the fighters with worst win percentage on their site: http://www.dropyourgloves.com/Fights/PlayerWinRate.aspx?Decisions=50&League=1&List=Worst
Even before looking at your link, I was going to post Cam Russell.

But hot damn did he play on a couple of squads with some legit heavies. One year with Chicago they boasted Ciccone, Cummins, Moreau, and a prime Probert. Then his last year with Colorado, they iced Dingman, Parker, Belak, Rychel, and Odgers.

Oh the 90s. :naughty:

Steve Webb hit like a Mack Truck.. But he was a terrible fighter.

He's never had any problem beating Andrew Peters.

Apart from Peters and Roy, he gets his ass handed to him more times than not. It's quite depressing, as you want your tough guy to build energy. Having you face boxed in certainly doesn't do that, it's counter-productive.

Tom Kostopoulus.
Seconded. He tries...he really does. But when he comes to the aid of a teammate it's like a rabbit trying to save a mouse from getting eaten by a lion.
