World under 20 Div 2A 2B

Nice to see Mo Mansi is GM for Spain, and two players playing in North Carolina.

Looks like it's Romania's turn to have goalie trouble as the GB boys soothe their sored egoes with a proper thumping.
Norton on the other hand's been excellent, which makes the decision to drop him for the Croatia game seem ever stranger.

It seems to be a common theme every year that Grubb doesn't know who the better goaltender is and puts the wrong guy in for either the first or second game, ending up in a loss and having to chase the tournament from there

I can't seem to recall the last time when one of these tournaments was this chaotic. Hopefully Lithuania will do their part to spice things up a little bit more with a win over Croatia.

Expected Lovro Kumanovic in the team, he is getting some minutes in Jesenice, anyone know the reason?

So glad to see the croatian hockey generation perform well. They went abroad instead of blaming others for their troubles and now are consuming the products of their adult mindset.

I can't imagine them getting promoted with all the lost points, but at least I hope for a medal to reward them.

I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed :sarcasm: I still think we have a marginally better team but as far as yesterday's game is concerned, Croatia deserved 2 points.

After the first period, we really didn't have an edge over them anywhere, in general felt like we are just playing scared and it's tough to win junior games 1-0. And once all the momentum was gone, it was gone even when Croatia tied it.

Since they hold the tie-breaker over GB, promotion is actually very possible.

A regulation win against Spain for Croatia and I'd say that it's all but sealed (Romania shouldn't be too much trouble to sweep aside), though judging by the way Spain played against the Netherlands, that's far from guaranteed.

Before the tournament I think I gave GB 90% chance for promotion. 0% of the remaining 10% were allocated to Croatia lol.

How often do recently promoted teams win their group?
From top my head, on men's level team GB did it recently (from 1B to elite)

Big game for Croatia against Romania and won't be an easy match. Romanians didn't give up easily against Lithuania.

All down to Bruno Idzan. He has enough eligibility years left to carry Croatia to elite level with years to spare at this rate :sarcasm:

I'm not trying to be a dick, but I think I have to be here, if not for BLR/RUS expulsion Croatia would at best come second/third to Poland/Korea realistically. That said they still proved a doubter like me wrong, kudos to their achievement.

On the other hand, assuming Croatia do beat already relegated Romania to take the group, you have to say it's a massive missed opportunity by the GB boys. Not sure I've seen any future senior team stars mind (though Harewood and Hopkins have some promise), but this was as good a chance as any they'd get to get back into 1B, Estonia coming down will make it a lot trickier next time 'round.

Next year is actually going to be really interesting. We only have 3 impact players unable to return and 3 Swiss "superprospects" likely joining the U20 ranks, Seniut will likely be the best player in the division overall... Estonia will still have Potsinoks but the rest of the group seems thinner than in years before.

While the last few years had a very clear favorite, next year I feel it might be a legitimate 3-horse race.

GB with another unconvincing win against Spain, 3-1 but if not for the saves of Ben Norton, we could easily have dropped this game too. Thought with a couple of exceptions Spain looked like better skaters across the board, with just chance conversion letting them down.
Great fun to know that he's conceded fewer goals than Crowe across the entire group, despite the latter goalie not even finishing his single game...

Liam Steele will most likely go on to play for the GB senior team

There it is.

Congrats Croatia - not often that a team earns a double promotion in back to back years. Well deserved too.

Bruno Idzan is a kid that could be drafted high next year too. Exiting prospects moving forward.
