Hmm, but host country Lithuania has lifted all covid regulations months ago? Why would their vaccination status matter?

Maybe it's up to the IIHF, because this past spring vaccination wasn't mandatory in Croatia, but few Croatian players couldn't play at Men's D2A because they weren't vaccinated.

Hard to see GB not getting promoted now. Taking out two teams from hockey food chain finally allows GB to get out of 2A level. Now seeing how good two probably weakest 1B teams Estonia and Poland look against each other, it seems like GB might be back here very soon.

Croatia just dominated the play but lost the game 3-2 in overtime

The Dutch goalie was fantastic

The Dutch GWG scorer also looked quite handy from the glimpses I caught from the game.

Great Britain struggle to put away Lithuania who scored twice with their first three shots but only once more for the rest of the game.
Is Pete Russell's coaching really all that's the difference between GB's respectable showings at senior level as compared to the youth?

There is plenty of evidence that Grubb is a useless coach, but hockey GB doesn't care and the U20 team keeps underperforming.

No matter how much the GB fans hate it I will insist it's the imports as well. They are not game-changing but having them or not does make some difference in the end.

Having said that, in light of GB getting demolished by Croatia so far, their level of underachieving at this level is pretty insane. The game is pretty funny so far overall, 4 penalties and 4 PP goals, got to love the PK going at 0% It also has to be noted how much better than the usual GB goaltending was last year. Hopefully, that kid goes on to have an EIHL career. This year, it is back to usual, it seems.

I will also go out on a bit of a limb and say if this Spanish team beats Lithuania today I won't be surprised and you shouldn't be either.

1/5 on the P-kill and no wonder, the defensive shape looks like Emmenthaler cheese Jesus Christ.

ffs sack him!

You have to fire the coach based on this game alone... This is ridiculous. Like ozo said, of course, they don't care, but this is embarrassing.

Goalie pulled after 6th goal

I don't think that's a very crazy thought, as Spain have beaten them already last year and even the bookies got ESP as favourites today soo....

Croatia really playing their chances well. It's not like they were just lucky with all those PP, they had other chances too and played a surprisingly solid D-game so far.

At least on the website I use, it was 2,9 for Spain regulation win and 1,95 for the Lithuanian one in the morning. bwin or bet365 still consider Lithuanians the favorites. So the thought isn't crazy but I feel it's safe to say many would be pretty surprised.

That for the most part because historically there used to be a huge gap between 2A nations like GB and Lithuania and elevator ones like Spain, Croatia, Serbia, and the Netherlands. This year, the tournament situation is just crazy from a historical standpoint. If Spain does indeed win tonight they are probably the overall favorites. Which is crazy. At the senior level, GB is in the Elite and most of those nations are [usually] in D2A.
