In or Out
As for who will be in the NHL and thus out for Canada, well, from 2007 draft we have:
Kyle Turris, Sam Gagner, David Perron, & Milan Lucic for sure are out.
Brandon Sutter is a maybe. He's a center, so looking at the Canes depth at that position, you have Eric Staal and Rod Brind'Amour ahead of him for sure. Depends on who that 3rd centerman is.
For 2008, Steven Stamkos is out for sure. I think both Doughty and Schenn have a good shot to make the Kings and Leafs, since both are 89's. For forwards, I think only Hodgson is a threat to make the NHL, but that's due mainly to the lack of depth the Canucks have at center. They have at the moment, Henrik Sedin as their #1 and Ryan Kesler as a 3rd line checking center. Have a spot open if Brendan Morrison does not return or another veteran center is not signed. Otherwise, I don't expect him to be a 4th line center on the Canucks.
For Doughty to make the NHL, he's got to keep on track with a good nutrition program and work out regiment.
As for Schenn, the Leafs have Kaberle, McCabe, Carlo C., Stralman, White at the backend. Kubina, for the Leafs sake needs to be traded. So, Schenn wouldn't be asked to shoulder a serious workload. But, he does need to play at least 12 - 15 minutes per game at the start and hopefully get more minutes if he plays well.
As for captain material. If Sutter, Schenn, and Doughty return to the team, they would be the 3 players with letters on their jerseys. Next in line would be some younger guys, like a Hodgson.
