Always a great tournament

USA allows 4 goals to Germany. Goaltending could be something to watch for US.

Canada dominating Finland but only up 1-0 after 1. I’d have thought Finland would be a little better

Keeping a close watch on the draft eligible players for obvious reasons. Hagens and Schaefer are the real deal, gonna be a nice year to finish at the bottom.

McKenna is gonna make a team real happy in 2026.

Also Canada is using Live is Life by Opus as their goal song. Shoutout Zenon Konopka!

Watched most of the USA game, was a good one. Curious to see how they do against a higher talent.

Russia out of this tourney is such a buzzkill.

I know it was goal #10 in garbage time against a lesser opponent but the one timer by Eiserman was a beauty. Not something we see pretty much ever at UBS.

Feels like a good time for the reminder that Axel Sandin Pelikka was taken with the pick that we sent for Horvat (was sent to Detroit for Hronek)
People here will continue to defend that trade, and maybe the value was fine in a vacuum - but given where the Islanders were headed as a team, the trade made little sense, and it doesn’t take a Monday morning QB to come to that conclusion.

We did get a valuable player back and clearly we have not been developing this type of player and would not get one as a UFA.

With all of that being said, I completely agree with your take. Time will ultimately be the best judge of this trade and frankly it’s even too soon to say for sure how everyone did.

One more thing I’ll add is that when we made the trade initially, Horvat was unsigned. I guess I have to give Lou the credit that maybe he had a gentleman‘s agreement that Horvat would sign here but without that assurance, it was remarkably risky for a franchise in our position and with our history (Tavares).

If one thing is for certain it is that the NYI “ in no way shape or form “ Butch Goring , would have selected a future NHL player
with any draft pick traded away . LGI

Latvia beats Canada 3-2 in the shootout in one of the biggest upsets in WJC history. Linards Feldbergs had 54 saves along with going 8 for 8 on shootout saves in an amazing performance. He’s undrafted and turned 19 in August but you have to imagine a performance like that will put him on some teams radars, especially if he continues well in the tournament and in the QMJHL for the rest of the season.
