Katchouk and Raddysh with G and A a piece. Boris has looked terrific.

Foote looks good as the shutdown guy for Canada, and Howden looks solid as well.

My goats are Bean and Clague on D, and McLeod at F. Don't think they've looked good at all so far.

Katchouk's been making statements all year, it seems. 27 goals in 30 games. Just starting to fill out his frame.

Terrific game for Katchouk and Raddysh. They're going to be fun to watch together and along with Thomas I thought they were really good game 1. Raddysh to me looks noticeably faster than he did a year ago in this tournament. The difference a year of development makes. He's not Katchouk fast but it's still better. He's moving his feet. As for Katchouk I wonder if this will be his coming out party. Part of the story for Canada is they lack "the guy" they've had on previous teams and it'd be great to see Katchouk step up here. He was dangerous all game. Bob Mckenzie called him a bull in a china shop in intermission and he was definetely impactful for Canada. Finland is no slouch either.

It felt like Foote was Canada's 7th dman. I didn't see him out there too much. Wasn't too noticeable when he was but that's not a bad thing for him, although that was a heck of a play with his left arm to save a goal. Howden looked solid as well. I have the Russia-Czech game recorded so I'll watch Hajek tomorrow sometime.

Ever since the 2016 draft I've heard conflicting reports on Katchouk's defensive prowess, more so than any prospect. Everything from being a shutdown PKer and future Selke vote getter to someone who won't make the NHL because he is totally lost in the defensive third. What do you all think?

Hard to judge by one game, but he looked great to me. Set up one goal by making a great play on the Dman at the point, pk'd well, and broke up a lot of plays. He reminded me of playoff Killorn.

I was only able to watch the 3rd of the Canada vs Slovakia game but Foote still looks pretty awkward on his skates which worries me.

Game 1 thought Raddysh and Katchouk were better than Howden, but tonight imo Howden looked the best of the 3 forwards. Showed a lot more of his offensive abilities. Raddysh scored a goal, but he had the screen in front for another one and hit 2 posts. Big dog eats. What I like again with Raddysh is just the progression from 2017 to 2018 now. The offense will always be there but he's more in the play than he was previously. Last year he was much more one dimensional. if he didn't have the puck he wasn't doing much.

As for Katchouk he was unfortunately pretty quiet all game. Foote played a lot more with some of Canada's D getting injuried. Clague sat out, Bean got injuried during the game, and Fabbro didn't play much in the 3rd. went from 12:55 to 19:51 from game 1 to 2 in ice time. For Foote though he looks like a guy who needs to keep things really simple to be successful. He's not getting beat or making glaring mistakes.. he's not wowing me for being the 14th overall pick. Some shifts he's efficient in his own end and he makes a nice pass to send them the other way, and sometimes he fumbles around a little bit. Canada's trying to play fast and go go go, and in comparison that's not really him. It'll be interesting when he has to face the US forward group. A real challenge there.

I noticed that too during Development Camp this summer. But I still feel it's more of a dealing with an awkward teenage growth spurt rather than a lack of natural skating ability. He's still growing into that tall, lanky body of his. Reminds me of my son when he went through the "all elbows and knees" phase. :D The kid is smart and learns very fast so I think there's still plenty of potential there. But yeah, it will be interesting to watch how he handles the faster forwards. I really need to watch some of the WJC this time!!

Vinik wanted this WJC in TB/Estero. As a fan, I'm theoretically all for getting the WJC down here in a few years once Water Street is further along (although I'd prefer TB/Orlando). I do sort of have to question how much it's worth it for NHL markets. They play a bunch of high priced, low attended games that displaces the pro team for an extended period where it could be a boon to the right smaller/distant markets. (The Saskatoons, St. John's, and Anchorages of the world).

Canada plays in front of another low-attended crowd at the world juniors

Alaska could probably really use a bone throw. Their economy isn't doing so well right now (which may be why they don't get it). They lost the ECHL Alaska Aces, and their D-1 NCAA programs are at risk. Budget cuts could wipe out Alaska's college hockey programs; WCHA fights to remain competitive

But back to what TB can do. I'm seeing the main complaint is ticket prices. If we could get like junior hockey ticket prices to see junior hockey players play junior hockey level hockey, then maybe.

Interesting that we're known as the team who drafts Russians, and then we have the most Canadian WJC players in back to back years. We just draft well period, regardless of locale.
