While I said earlier our current crop doesn't have a ton of higher end upside guys, there is a ton of quality depth that I can realistically see making it. Having a guy like Stancl develop into a quality #3 C, so that we don't have to go out and pay a premium for a vet to fill that role will save a ton in cap money.

Not sure how high his ceiling is, but Stancl just plays such a pro game. If he can keep improving his skating, I think a lot of what he does will translate to higher levels.

#14 on Slovakia frustrates the hell out of me, noticed several times in the Sweden game and now the Swiss game where he gets stuck out late on a shift. Both of Dvorskys linemates will be on the ice for majority of their shift before DD even steps foot on the ice...

I've seen multiple people project DD as similar to Kopitar, that's wishful thinking IMO. Reminds me more of ROR.

Does he have the hockey sense and defensive abilities of either of those players? Few players do and it's tough to compare a 19 year old to two of the best 2-way centers of this generation. Not sure I see Dvo being a Selke candidate someday but guess it's good to aim high.

No he is a little too stationary in the D-zone, I was referring more to his play in the O-zone.

It's kind of hard finding the exact comparison for him, but it basically comes down to a list of centers that have a decent amount of size, not the best of skaters, and that have high quality offensive skills. We'll have to see if his NHL defensive game is good enough to have the Kopitar, ROR, or Karlsson comps, and we'll have to see what type of offensive player he becomes to see if he leans more playmaker or shooter.

I see him being like a Karlsson, but even that comp can be weird since he's inconsistent offensively. Someone that has a pretty decent 2-way game, and that is primarily a shooter that gets 30ish. A poor man's Tavares.

Slovakia has looked terrible for the most part. The only player who can consistently complete a pass is Dvorsky. Pekarcik has made a few good plays out there. The Slovakians are playing a very passive brand of hockey and the Swiss have taken advantage.

I was thinking a comp for dd would be a rich man’s Pavol Buchnevich.

He lurks a whole lot and controls the play by being a cross crease or deep slot option, moving a lot to change or keep seams. He seems to be happy to use a wide range of shots although I haven’t seen backhand or sharp angle tries. But then he can just take control with assertive puck play where Buchnevich does that rarely.

Our sneaky forwards / 60 is going up.

Dvo isn’t ready this year for a call up. He’s at least a year away imo, maybe two.

Dvorsky's body positioning/leverage is night and day compared to last WJC. Great to see. When he gets positioning on these D-men, there's nothing they can do. He's bullied a few guys today.

I agree, but would still give him some games this year to experience NHL pace. If he comes into next season with improved conditioning and can gain a step I could see him making the NHL. Hopefully the Blues can help guide his development with his skating issues.

Leon Muggli with a terrible pass from behind his own net into the slot whick Slovakia buries, 2-1. Not a good game for Muggli today.
