2023 world juniors - Captain Fraser Minten - Canada 5th place

2024 - top forward Easton Cowan - Canada ??? Not looking good… what do these 2 have in common?

Lifeless, lack luster, call it what you want. Everything seems so difficult for Canada.

Passes in feet, or behind, shots blocked, soft passes. They are all a mess. Dave Cameron does nothing to change it up.

How did cowan not have to sit after that stupid effin penalty by the bench?

How is mckenna who seems to be our only forward (maybe catton too tonight) not getting every 2nd shift, I don’t care if he’s weak defensively…

The IIHF calls things tight. Sometimes the powerplay can win you a game. That's what happened tonight. And that's why some of the commenters who before the tournament were talking about how this was good roster construction have disappeared or seem to be focused entirely on even strength shot attempts.

It feels like you're watching the Ottawa Senators at times. The creativity has been beaten out of them by coaching (not just Dave Cameron but the leagues they play in). But this is Team Canada. There should be enough of a gap that they don't struggle through every game like this. It's sad.

What an unlikeable team, from the coaching to the players. Shittiest Canadian team in a very long time.

Unlikable is right. I could overlook some questionable roster decisions and lineups and usage if the kids actually played a better game. But too many of them are trying the win the game by themselves, take horrible (and obvious at the IIHF level) penalties, and then have the nerve to scream and yell at the refs every time? They're acting like spoiled brats who deserve a gold simply for showing up. This is not how Canada is supposed to act. It's getting embarrassing at this point. What the hell are the coaching staff and people who surround these kids teaching them over the past few years for nearly the entire team to act this way?

Which is funny cuz this team was seemingly picked to have all these selfless lunch pail types. Meanwhile they’re trying this absurd stuff.

You know who hasn’t been impressive at all? Dickinson. Like super bland. Doesn’t really take matters into his own hands.

That was brutal. No discipline at all, no finishing, terrible hockey IQ and vision.

Kind of ironic this happens in a year where we do have solid goaltending.
Hockey Canada is full of hubris currently. They left out two of the most offensively gifted defensemen to go for average. They are getting what they made. Personally I can't stand Dave Cameron and think he's a fool when it comes to creating a hockey team or developing players on that hockey team. He and the GM of team Canada are to blame for this lacklustre play.

It all comes down to coaching. Or lack thereof.

We win. Everyone is all smiles.

We lose. Everyone from roster construction to coaching to GMing to DEI culture is going to get the blame.

Other countries are getting better. Here in Canada we've arguably priced out over half the population from ever playing

Should have been the 2 penalty rule. You sit after that, short tournament or not.

Definately blame the coaches for that one.
The guy that shot away the goalies stick should have been pasted to the bench. That was moronic. If you don't know basic rules you shouldn't be in a red jersey. Then he takes another dumb penalty 10 minutes later. But it would have been detrimental to the team if his butt was on the bench not taking a penalty? How? And if that results in the three subsequent idiotic penalties not being taken, you are up 4 penalties.

Lines need to be in a blender now - nothing to lose. Get catton and mckenna as far away from pinelli as possible. Get them 16,17,18 minutes of ice.

Who and or what is a Gauthier, Cataford, Beaudoin. They bring nothing to the table.

So he was hired to just stand behind the bench while looking like he's sucking on a lemon the whole time? Pretty sure that's a big part of coaching, Dave
I’ve sat behind the bench at games he was coaching. That’s actually what he does. Stands still with that look on his face.

Was there last night, the atmosphere was amazing. But, I have to admit, its probably more so to due with the energy being New Years Eve and the fans were revved up already. Extremely disappointed, these guys look fancy, they breakout, make passes, create chances......NO FINISH!!!!!!! The Team Canada brass left the goal scorers off the roster. What a bunch of idiots.

Too many dumb players making plays that don't have a hope , taking unnecessary penalties.. They took 2 lines that could be 4th lines vs 3 lines with more offense
