Can we borrow the Latvian goalie for the Sens' road trip?
LOL. I thought the same thing. I don’t know if the Latvian goalie has been drafted by any NHL team, but that guy was stopping everything.

After that 1st period, I thought this was a trap game and Latvia would win. They just kept hanging around.

I thought Team Canada did better later in the game when they started talking some shots from the point. They were a little too fancy passing it around and Latvia defended well against the cross ice passes. Latvia took those away from Canada.

That's what happens when big, tough players try to make plays.

Stir the pot!

This list has some difference makers... Canada has 2 lines and even they can be improved.
replace Yager and Howe with Misa and Sennecke would be a huge bump.

They should go get Parekh to run the PP again. I can't believe Cameron is using Bonk, who is ok but Dickinson runs it in London

Latvia was badly outshot but looked more organized than Canada

here we go again.

They got the donuts? Excellent....
Canada is a team that's going to score most of their goals off the rush. But there's not a lot of rushes when you're spending most of the game in the other team's end passing the puck around on the perimeter or shooting from the outer part of the circles.

Maybe they'll do better against a team that does a better job exiting their own zone.

Aragorn is right that Canada never got to the inside.

They were happy to pass it around the perimeter and even the outside shots were rarely screened.

No emotion from the team, and nobody tried to even spark anything. Dead energy in the building as well.

Overall, a pretty dismal start to this tourney.

Happy for the Latvians, though! May be the pinnacle of their hockey careers. What a moment.

Latvia did an excellent job of collapsing and not letting them get to the inside... Still the Canadian forwards that can attack into traffic are few

I look at that as an opportunity to draw penalties. The Canadian players rarely forced the issue. But yes, they collapsed very well.

We had the puck most of the night and I think we took more penalties than Latvia.

Weird game.

The 'music' TSN is pushing as part of their broadcast this year is making me physically ill. Literally takes away from the hockey experience when I've got this douchebag yawling in auto tune at every segment transition.

So bad it makes you nostalgic for The Reklaws.

It's been like this for a few years now but I think its fair to point out that hockey is typically a more competitive sport than say, basketball, which is far easier to predict a winner or see discrepancies when a dominant team like the USA plays a lesser country.

We as Canadians probably got used to being top-in-class at hockey but I think with nearly every country being so educated on performance and what exactly it takes to be a high performing athlete, we'll see countries that probably aren't quite as good as Canada stick in games and even win games for more frequently. Partly because the game of hockey, in nature is for more competitive, but also because all of these guys are high performing athletes compared to say 20 years ago when the education and expertise in development wasn't quite at the level it is now.

I'm liking hearing Free Bird as the goal song though. When i was a kid, the two most shouted song requests at a bar were Led Zeppelin and Free Bird. Nice to see Latvia doing well as their hockey fans are such great partiers

If we don't make it to a medal game, I hope Latvia goes deep. Loved the compete they showed us.

Even if Canada doesn't have hte most 'talented' roster, its an impressive feat to beat Canada.
