Rome's hit wasn't nearly as late. When Rome committed to hitting Horton there was about 10 feet between them when Horton had passed the puck. When Jenner committed to hitting Pettersson there was at least double that distance.

I agree with your take on it. It gets really tiring hearing about the time, as if these are sprinters or something, .5 of a second blah blah blah. Look at the distance Jenner had to go after the Swedish kid passed the puck off. It's a long way, Jenner was just inside the blueline, pass was made at the same time when the Swede was just across the goal line. As you said, at least 20 feet. It was more than that for sure. Jenner has to be smarter than that, and no hits like that don't go unpenalized in the chl all the time. I've seen suspensions on lesser hits in the dub recently.

Some of the defenses of this hit that i've seen are ridiculous. Basically it wasn't a head shot, or a hit from behind, so therefore.....no big deal? Hey why not just make everybody who's touched the puck elegible to be hit until they leave the ice? It was a ****ing stupid play, that any player with a brain would/should have known it would be punished harshly under IIHF review. Jenner isn't exactly new to international competition.....he should have known better. I don't expect to see him in Ufa at all. Good thing we have a guy like Monahan waiting, might end up being better than Jenner anyway.

I'm with the people who have no sympathy for this Jenner kid.

That hit reminded me of Cam Janssen on Tomas Kaberle.

Ya I don't understand what Spott was thinking. There must have been disagreements. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall, in that room, when they made that decision.

Happens all the time in the dub.

Could you provide me with the lesser incidents in the WHL hat were punished harsher?

Skating full speed, coasting from top of circle to bottom of circle.

Once again people are focussed on the injury of a player who wasn't expecting to be hit.

Obviously the injury plays into it, just as it did with the Rome/Horton incident...the fact of the matter is that it was a VERY late hit that showed very little discipline on Jenner's part.

CAN F Boone Jenner has been suspended for 3 games for his charge on Swedish defenseman Jasper Petterson in an exhibition game on December 22nd, Petterson seperated his shoulder and broke his wrist on the hit, knocking him out of the tournament. This suspension will keep Jenner out of the line-up until New Years Eve against the Russians, the same team that Jenner got suspended against in last year's WJC for spearing Evgeni Kuznetsov.

I think this suspension is a bit too much from the IIHF, yes it was late and unneccessary, but the hit itself was clean, Petterson was admiring his pass and didn't keep his head up, I would be okay with 1 or 2 games, but 3 seems a bit overboard.

What do you guys think?

think about the bolded part. LATE and UNNECCESSARY!!! ergo, you get suspended. Also, based upon some of the comments, I do not think some posters have paid attention to previous suspensions handed out by this governing body. It is on par and was earned

Jenner is lucky to still be playing in the tournament. If I was him I'd thank Santa for this early Christmas present.

But the hit itself was clean, and I don't think the IIHF would've changed it's ruling whether it was on time or late. I think they're basing this suspension off of the injury that occured, not the actual hit.

Well deserved. I wish whoever was in charge of the suspensions in the IIHF were in charge of the NHL's suspensions.

Late and unnecessary, ergo he got a penalty. If Petterson wasn't a soft player he wouldn't have gotten hurt and there's probably no suspension. If Petterson still had the puck he still gets demolished, should there be a suspension then?

Three games is excessive.

It makes no difference if the hit itself is clean when it's made at a time when the opposing player has no reason to be expecting it. It was far, far too late. It's not as if this is news to them, Jenner should've known better and it's his own damn fault for being a moron. Every year the standards are exactly the same and unlike Rome, Jenner had ample time to reconsider this hit.

This is my stance as well.

Hits that late on defensman moving the puck from that spot on the ice happen ALL the time.

In this instance the outcome was devastating. If the player popped back up he wouldn't have eve got 2 minutes.

For the record, if we are compared hits, I got to a two-count for Jenner's hit while Rome's hit I just barely got to a one-count.

Both suspensions handed down were too long though. And I hate to be biased here, but especially Rome's.

Goalies:
I. Ustinsky (Stal'nye Lisy)
A. Makarov (Saskatun Blejdz)
A. Vasilevsky (Tolpar)

Defense:
Y. Dyblenko (Atlant)
N. Nesterov (Traktor)
A. Sergeyev (Val'-d'Or Foreurs)
A. Yarullin (Ak Bars)
A. Mironov (Dinamo Moskva)
K. Dyakov (Mamonty Yugry)
P. Koledov (Loko)

Forwards:
M. Grigorenko (Kvebek Remparts)
N. Yakupov (Neftehimik)
A. Khokhlachev (Spartak)
V. Tkachev (Ak Bars)
Y. Kosov (Metallurg Magnitogorsk)
A. Slepyshev (Metallurg Nov.)
M. Shalunov (Traktor)
V. Nichushkin (Traktor)
E. Mozer (Omskie Jastreby)
A. Sigarev (SKA)
N. Kucherov (Ruan-Noranda Haski)
K. Kapustin (Loko)
D. Zharkov (Bel'vil' Bulls)

Russia has an extremely strong roster this year. They have Slepyshev on the second line and Nichushkin on the third. This team isn't quite stacked with "stars" as Canada, but the group looks much more cohesive.

Not surprised about the length of the suspension. The IIHF really cracks down on stuff like this. Surprised it wasn't longer considering Jenner's history.

Russia's teams through the past haven't ever been really cohesive, it's more like a bunch of all-stars hogging the puck trying to score as many goals as possible, which works to an extent, but defense hasn't been the greatest for Russia, and I think that will be their problem this year. I'm not saying Makarov and Vasilevskiy can't stop a puck, but it will be tough on them because they don't have much help on the back end.

I still put our team over Russia, hopefully Subban/Binnington can keep it together against the Russians.
