Gotta hand it to the Netherlands. They aren't the powerhouse that Germany or Brazil are, but they're fit, skilled, organized, and they don't give up.

For example, you can play for possession, holding onto the ball and slowly building up an attack like Spain does. If you have highly skilled players, you can pull that off. Of course, a buildup can leave you vulnerable to counterattacks, and a well-executed counter can open up a team that appears to be dominating. There have been matches in the Champions League where Spanish teams controlled the ball 75% of the time but got opened up by German teams' counterattacks and ended up getting shredded.

Spain = Kings!

Great post though, and totally agree on Germany, most adaptable team imo.

HAHAHAHA! Wow, as soon as I made my post, the Dutch turned it around and won. Awesome. Also, Robben clearly dove, but that was at least the third time he had been obstructed in the penalty box like that in this game. ****** means to an end, but the right call was made.

Mexico was clearly better in the first half, the Dutch clearly better in 2nd. Mexico played back wat too much.

Gotta hand it to Ochoa played great again, nothing he could do about first goal.

I love it ! :yo:

horrible dive by Robben but he should have had a penalty already, still a dive. I take it.

Next hurdle, Greece or Costa Rica.

to be honest, the angle i saw from fifa.com looked like the Mexican defender stepped on the Dutch guy's foot. I'm not crazy about the distance of the penalty kick though.

Is the extra time sudden death?

Extra time is not sudden death, but I'm not sure about overtime.

Or are they just doing penalty kicks this time around? I recall up to two 15-minute overtimes but I don't know if the overtimes are sudden death or not.

2 15 minute halves and if its still tied penalty kicks.

a while back they did have the golden goal rule which was sudden death, now they play the full time.

Got it, thanks. I like that the overtimes are not sudden death but sudden death is definitely necessary in hockey.

@MGaborik10: Its embarrasing how soccer players dive! Espacially Robben against Mexico that led to penalty kick! #FifaWorldCup
