People I'm afraid Russia won't announce a roster in time, and if they do, it'll be Tikhonov's call. :(
 
Anyone knows if there gonna be any World Cup publications produced?

And swedes, I don't count Pro Hockey. Their guide for the 2002 olympics sucked, the worst I've ever read.

Aftonbladet though, use to make quite good "bilagor", they did a good one for the 2002 olympics.

However, anyone know if any american magazines will make World Cup issues?

Pro Hockey? haha, probably 10 years since I read that piece of trash (if the magazine existed 10 years ago, my memory is damaged ;))

I bet most Swedish papers will make WCup specials. Aftonbladet will probably have a pretty good one, as will Expressen I'd imagine. Swedish hockey newspaper Hockey News should probably have a good one too.

Will all the respect for the swedish papers, I'd like to read what the americans say about our team, and the others as well of course.

BTW, I'v saved Aftonbladet's Olympic paper, it's quite good. Nice to read now and then :D

agreed, basically every big hockey website should have a special for the tournament, me thinks. At least sites like nhl.com, tsn.ca etc.

Honestly, reading long texts on the Internet isn't that fun, I want it on paper! Don't know what to do without the INternet though. Thanks for being born in the right century! :)
 
Canada is going to be suffling their jersey numbers because 5 players wear #19 and 3 wear #12

Here is what I think:

Thornton - 9
Doan - 17
Richards - 39

Iginla - 12
Gagne - 21
Marleau - 14

USA has some shuffling to do also. I think:

Leetch - 2
Hatcher - 5

Halpern - 11
Amonte - 10

Weight - 39
DiPietero - 29?

Conroy - 22
Konowalchuk - 33?
Klee - 20

Schnieder - 23
Drury - 18

I would think Brett Hull will come back to #16 also

Canada's training camp will be based in Ottawa (as will Slovakia's, I believe).

They'll begin training camp on August 20 at the University of Ottawa, stay there for three days and then relocate to the Corel Centre, where they'll play 3 exhibition games. Then also play an exhibition game in Columbus on Aug 23

At the start of the World Cup, Russia's average age will be 27.7.

Avg height : 6'1"
Ave weight : 204 lbs
 
Hockeycanada have listed the weight for the other 7 teams, of course they are wrong on some europeans* but anyway. Team Canada is the heaviest team with an average weight of 208,0 lbs, the number for Team Germany is only 193,6 lbs.

Canada - 208,0 lbs
Russia - 204,6 lbs
Czech Republic - 204,4 lbs
Slovakia - 203,6 lbs
USA - 199,9 lbs
Sweden - 198,8 lbs
Finland - 195,6 lbs (25 players)
Germany - 193,6 lbs

* Henrik Lundqvist weighs a lot more than 167 lbs...

In the 1996 World Cup, Ron Wilson coached Team USA and ordered that all his players keep low numbers. The point was that no individual should stick out, so they all got low numbers instead of flashy high ones -- a "team concept". Roenick wore his old 27, Weight switched to 19 (from 39), Tkachuk surrendered #7 to Chelios in favor of #17, Hull switched to #15 for LaFontaine's #16. Amonte wore #11 if I'm not mistaken. Mathieu Schneider who had been wearing #72 (and 27) wore #5, and Derian Hatcher surrenders his #2 to Captain Brian Leetch for the #3. I liked the idea. I use it in my video games. :)

Also, Sakic did change his number for Yzerman - I just don't remember what it was. Thornton could switch to his old #6 - but then again, Wade Redden wears that.
 
Here's some interesting statistics that highlight the average point totals (2003/04 NHL season) for players on the U.S. and Canadian teams (total, defense, forwards):

Average total:

Canada: 48.95
U.S.: 43:17

Average defense:

Canada: 36.625
U.S.: 27.875

Average forward:

Canada: 55.53
U.S.: 51.33

Yes I was well aware of all that. USA did it in the 98 olympics as well.


Sakic wore 91 also.
 
Roster change for Germany:
Khimik Voskresensk doesn't allow Jan Benda to play, because the league already starts before the World Cup. Christoph Ullmann (Mannheim) will replace him.
 
the 2 NA quaterfinals are scheduled to be played in St Paul (Sept 7) and Toronto (Sept 8) with both games listed as NA1 vs NA4 or NA2 vs NA3

does anyone know what the criteria is for determining which game is where??

I'm assuming that it has to do with which game Canada & USA play in and as long as they don't face each other, canada would play in toronto and usa would play in st paul. but does anyone know for sure?

I guess that Canada plays in Toronto and USA at St. Paul. If they meet each other the better will have a home match. (so if Canada is 2nd and USA 3rd, the match is at Toronto and if USA is 2nd and Canada 3rd the match is at St. Paul)

On the other note, Vladimir Ruzicka replaces late Ivan Hlinka as a coach of Czech Republic.
