Hovi scores and then saves a goal at the other end. She's having quite the game so far. Only fair she gets to save Raty after all the saves Raty has made and damn that was close, Karvinen just couldn't get a hold of the puck quick enough.

It'd have been crazy if Raty could have kept the shutout but the Americans are too good to be kept off the board. Will be interesting to see how Finland responds.

On the plus side for Finland this is mostly their own doing so if they clean it up they know they can stay in this game and future games.

US also used the bench proximity greatly to their advantage this period. Long periods wher they were able to change players and we couldn't.

Säkkinen played the 1-1 goal so poorly. Went to unnecessarily assist in the corner, end up poking the puck toward her own net, giving the US player a free path.

She's essentially just the first starter. Rob Stauber hasn't shown much preference for any of the three goalies leading up to the Olympics and all three are pretty close in talent. Rooney had an impressive Olympic lead up and it's not like she's being started versus Canada.

And that's that. If Finland can keep out of the box they can pull off an upset. Hope Canada watches this game and takes a long look at both teams to ensure they aren't taken by surprise.

Better team won. Finland did make a good game of it.
The whole time i'm watching i'm laughing at the ridiculous size of the goaltender's pads. Raty's pads almost come up to her breasts.
