Lol yeah forsure.

I think the Leafs are better than they've been. They've dealt with injuries alot this year. They need to be more consistent though. Hopefully this road trip will be a good one to get back on track before the break.

We need a trade though. 3 C obvious need at the minimum.
100% but they won't be getting free passes in the playoffs. They will need to up their game because we know who ever they play will.

I have been seeing the stats all season about Edmonton being "elite" by defensive metrics but every time I watch them they make egregious defensive mistakes.....usually just standing around watching. What gives? I'm an evidenced based guy, it's weird seeing evidence versus visual be so contrary? Maybe it's just the wrong evidence? Oilers remind me of Todd Gill. Guy could play a great game but if he ever made a single mistake, it always ended up in the back of his net.
If a Leaf goalie let in the goals Skinner did last night they would be roasted here big time. Too many Leaf wins this season are losses if they switched the goalies. I’m not saying that Stolarz/Woll can’t give us an advantage in a series but counting on them so much may backfire on us.

You think they’re beating the Oilers in a seven game series playing that way ? Both Stolarz and Woll would get injured facing 40+ shots a night and the Oilers goaltending wouldn’t be that bad every night.
Oilers goaltending was not that bad. Skinner got beat on good goals from skilled players. It is comical how oilers fans are putting the loss on their goalie. Get real, they could not score on Toronto’s second string goalie.

Also, the Leafs wouldn’t be that bad every night. Both Tavares and Knies were out with injuries for weeks.

The Leafs have shown they can be an elite team this season, just need to get back into that groove now that our lineup is largely healthy.

With other teams making their big moves I'm hoping NYI opens up for business soon. Ensures we don't have to bid against someone like Dallas and can target Nelson or Pageau

Nylander’s goal and Marner's goal shouldn’t go in. Even the other two goals were poor rebound control on Skinners part. The Oilers weak link is definitely goaltending. Is Woll the Leafs second string goalie? At worst they’re a tandem and Woll won the game for them too.

f*** Edmonton. Most arrogant fans in the league and that includes Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal.

They are probably going to win the Cup this year but i hope they never win another one ever again.
100%... I can't stand Alberta, all they do is whine about Toronto. Truly insufferable

Do you expect the leafs to play that bad every game? You have another thing coming if that’s what you believe. It was also good enough to beat the Oilers at their very best.

The Oilers D is also garbage. You can’t put it all on the goaltending.

The Oilers are not winning anything with that trash D and goaltending. I do agree that fan base is absolutely delusional. Oilers fans are absolutely obsessed with Toronto. Maybe because they know there’s a chance that McDavid is going to come home when he’s a UFA.

At least McMann and Holmberg can keep up with him, which seems to be his biggest problem - if he doesn't get a scoring chance off the rush he has to curl and wait, and usually gets mobbed before reinforcements arrive.

With those lines he'd be on the de facto second anyway.
There's that, but Holmberg stunts scoring opportunities and Willy is outmanned when hes centering.

It seems we don't have enough cap space to adequately support both Matty and Willy. We might need to split Marner in two, or maybe JT needs to take a 3C salary to stay in this particular town.

It was a ridiculous call, but fitting for this league. It should have been a goal.
Offside is offside there is a rule in place.

Speaking of calls NFL referee suspended and being investigated for ignoring many flagrant fouls committed by the KC Chiefs v the Buffalo Bill's.

Yep it happens in the high and mighty NFL, there's no one that can tell me it doesn't happen in the NHL.

32 yrs since a Canadian team won, and the last one that did had to beat a team that got several favourable calls in at least 2 series to make it to the final.

The problem with the NHL offside challenge rule is everyone is talking negatively about it today and that it ruins more games than it makes better. Last night is perfect example of where the air was let out building because of a meaningless inch. The NHL needs more excitement, not less.

You can’t change the rule now, but it should be looked at before next season.

One question, is offsides in the rulebook?

Just because a linesman misses a call doesn't mean one team should benefit and the other be disadvantaged.

Imagine how many "illegal" goals were scored in the NHL before the league used video technology for offside.
I remember it being horrible. Refs miss a call but they show it in replay and it was a clear offside and never fixed. Nothing more frustrating than having a method to fix something but choose not to use it.

If only baseball would choose to take out subjectivity with balls and strikes.

Agreed, that's the problem. That offside call last night was pretty irrelevant to the play.

It's the one rule that makes sense and isn't at the mercy of "judgement". There's a consistency in ruling offsides. Consistency is the one thing that all fans cry about and then we have a rule that is applied equally in all situations for and against all teams, some people want to see it go away. Edmonton fans crying about that rule last night is crazy and hypocritical. That call goes their way and they wouldn't utter a word about how unfair it is.

It's the most fair and sane rule the NHL has. Goaltender interference? That's all over the place. DoPS? yeah we all know how bullshit that is - but offsides - it's fair, sometimes ya hate it sometimes ya love it - but it's almost 100% consistent - something that can't be said about most rules in the NHL

If an inch doesn't matter in a game, why would a player risk being offside to gain that inch. The criticism of a close offside should be towards the player who was offside. Not the rulebook. If only he held up one extra second to be safe because one extra second doesn't matter anyways, is what I'm hearing here.

I couldn’t care less about the Oilers but the Leafs were outplayed badly for most of that game and have been pretty inconsistent lately. Their reliance on great goaltending to win on a lot nights is concerning. Hopefully they can adapt to a system that gives them more playoff success but it’s hard to say they’re there yet.

Are McCabe and Tanev still considered one of the best shutdown pairs?
Are they playing together ? Isn’t McCabe playing with Rielly ?

I'd say Vancouver beats them on that one, but there are a few reasons to dislike Alberta. lol
I wasn't just talking about the fans lol

I agree that the offside was pretty inconsequential but a line is drawn and to ignore it because of an inch is a slippery slope. Could be worse, look at some of the offside calls I'm soccer

That's right, it was the beginning of that season, they chose Simmonds instead.
It was more that Perry took two months into free agency to accept where his career was at, and by then, most teams (including the Leafs) had already signed people for that role.
