These kinds of calls are already wildly inconsistent between ref to ref and game to game. Goalies that are barely touched and a goal is called back. Goalies that you see are significantly interfered with are sometimes called good goals.

At least with offside goals you can reduce the number of goals being called back if you simply say any offside challenge will be played back at normal speed and if you can't tell whether a player is offside or not easily then they're considered onside. Plain and simple. I don't know why we need to bring out the magnifying glass and slow down the video to frame by frame to see if someone's skate is 'offside' by an inch or two. If that's the level of detail you need to go to for determining an offside or not, then obviously they were close enough to the line to be 'nearly onside' and that should be good enough.
 
They looked a little lost defensively against the oilers 5vs5. They completely had no idea how to defend and somehow the oilers couldn’t capitalize on it. This team needs to figure some shit out and I’m sooooooo sure that will be happening this season.

I’d be mad that was the rule….you have to live by the rules. Again they dominated, their stars were all over the ice and made the Leafs look like an AHL team with Hasek in net. They shouldn’t worry about getting a playoff spot.

I disagree. I find it super lame and dumb that a great play leading to a goal can be called back for someone being 'offside' by an inch or two of a line. Like I said if you can't tell if a player is offside at normal speed then that means they were barely offside if that. As a fan IT SUCKS to get all excited over a goal being scored and then a few minutes later it gets called back over a stupid 'offside' that didn't really matter to the entire play. Maybe you're fine with it, but I'm not and I find it really has killed some of the excitement I had for the NHL.

The same thing goes for all these stupid ticky tacky penalties where merely touching a player is a penalty these days instead of just letting players play on.

So what would be your measurements that you would allow someone to be off side and how would you accurately measure it. I’m guessing there would be multiple challenges……….because no matter what extra you allow what if your allowance was exceeded by 1 more inch? Do you let that go or extend it yet another inch

HAHA OILERS FELL FOR TRELIVING'S GENIUS MASTER PLAN! :biglaugh:

He knew that the Oilers sign every ex-Leaf, and that we'd play the Oilers on February 1st, 2025, so he sacrificed 4.5m, 14 games, and the opportunity to get an actual top-4 defenseman last year so that the Oilers would sign Klingberg this year and he'd go offside in the game his team was screwing up and nullify the game-tying goal and we'd win.

As much as the Leafs looked hilariously bad in the 2nd and 3rd, the same can be said about the Leafs complete dominance over the Oilers in the 1st. And yes McDavid and Draisaitl looked good, but they successfully combined for 1 secondary assist.

I don’t understand the collective orgasm over how good the Oilers looked when we never give credit to our boys when they get goalied.

With that said Woll and Tanev are really the only thing separating this team what what they have been in the past.

Funny how Timmins saves a goal seconds before Oilers score, and all the posts are about him screening Woll. 3 blocked shots - Taniv (4) the only player with more.

Willy spent part of one 5on5 shift with Matty late in the second and set him up for a good scoring chance - one more than Mitch to that point.

Zone time doesn't necessarily mean much. If you score in five seconds of o-zone time (as both Willy and Mitch did) you don't stay there. If you spend a lot of time cycling and hitting the goalie it adds up.

Wow are posters here bipolar about Woll (and others).

I'm honestly surprised Woll hasn't been injured yet in this run since Stolarz went out. He needs to come back soon, hasnt it been 6 weeks already?

Our PP looked good. Outside that it wasn't really a dominate period
 
team looked overmatched for last two periods but I can’t really recall an nhl game where a team down 3-0 after one period didn’t push back; it’s basically inevitable unless it is a top team vs bottom feeder. Saw many opportunities squandered to hold back and defend. Blew out Montreal the other week in a similar situation

Weird game otherwise

Perry just scored, love Joey Woll but that was a soft one.
 
3-0 , they stop playing and we've got thst result.

Some time goalie step up to help the guy in front who dont necessairly playing great, sometime player in front step up when goalie dont have a pretty good game, that's hockey.

1st game of a long road trip in the west, got 2 pts reset and be better next game. Just hope Matthews/Marner finish to be split... Marner was so great without Matthews and since he came back, i don't like his game as much. He's not as good

Mcmamn- Holmberg ( until leafs find a better option like gourde or kunin)-Nylander

and roll with those 3 line please...

Must be a reward to be on the ice with an empty net. William logged the most time on ice amongst all our forwards 20:09. It used to be Mitch but lately it’s been William getting the most toi., and wow McCabe logged 30:22

Yeah, he had a great game. Even moreso without the puck. He made some reads on the defensive side that were meaningful!

I was at this game. Oilers fans were getting in my face and as soon as I heard we were challenging I jumped up screaming in joy because I knew it would come back. Made sure to clap and cheer loudly in the ears of all the oilers fans who were getting in my face.

Priceless.

PP scored... that is a huge positive! Maybe they can build off it. Seemed to me they were willing to just shoot on net and work the net-front to get the scoring chance off a rebound if the shot didn't go in.

Woll was stellar!
