Looks to be a pretty good team on paper with lots of talent. Thoughts?

2017 draft looks interesting for sweden: Liljegren, Brännström, Hedberg, Tilander, Andersson, Boqvist, Hugg, Davidsson, Pettersson etc

No star player at forward, but very good depth. Size is a problem though, the tallest forward is 186 cm and he's built like a hockey stick. The defence looks pretty good, unfortunately the two best guys are the youngest ones. Filip Gustavsson may not be released for this tournament so that would be a huge blow. I don't expect this team to win but there are lots of interesting players to watch, more so than in previous years.

Nylander is out of the OHL playoff, hopefully he will join the team now. Ended with 12p in 6 games in the playoff, it seems ok. Consider how good he was in WJC 20, I expect a lot from him. But it was also a very weird WJC 20, with many undrafted players dominated.

The eliteprospects.com link has Nylander on the roster now. Hopefully it's confirmed soon. Really want to get another look at him against his age group and in a tournament where a lot of the guys in that tier of the draft (McLeod, Sergachev, Bean, Brown, etc) are playing.

Any word on the status of Liljegren? I was at the game in Winnipeg where he picked up an injury that kept him on the bench for the bulk of the 3rd period. I would like to know if he is good to go because he is a player that looks really dynamic and is one worth watching.

They registered him for the tournament already so he should good to go. Usually they don't register a player right away if he's day to day.

Him and Nylander are the guys that excite me the most on this team. A couple of the defensive pairs play together the entire season in their club teams and will eat a lot of icetime which could limit Liljegren's icetime a bit. He will surely be on the 1st PP though.

That is where he got his goal from the other night. He didn't get as much ice time as I would have liked but he was just unreal in the limited time I saw him.

Isn't this supposed to be a powerhouse team? with Nylander, Liljegren, Bratt and Pettersson. Barely beat Latvia and blown out by the U.S.

Can't speak for this team specifically but we've had a coaching problem for a long time with U18.. Can't seem to get the skill to transform into a winning team when it matters. Often great SF/SA ratios with little to show for it.

Let's see if this team can win the right games, top2 in the group is still up for grabs to avoid CAN & FIN in QF.

Agree, can't believe Grönborg has passed so many teams with so poor display and still got the top job in the end. Missed u-20 gold in Malmö, missed finals with a dynamite team in Finland. And some blowout losses in important games against the U.S when he coached the U-18. So typical swedish culture to just ignore the results and give it to the nice guy who has been sticking around for a long time... ugh

Having watched Sweden's two initial games, I am a bit amazed how many errors these players make. They seem very uncomfortable out there and the passing game has been really poor. Also quite astonished how poor the decision making has been from the defensemen while releasing shots. Feels like 95% of Sweden's shots have been blocked.

Skill wise, it is fun to see that Timothy Liljegren is so much more skilled than any other player on this team, with the exception of maybe Nylander. Liljegren looks fast, excellent puck control, one of few defensemen actually capable hitting the net from the blue line and to be honest, he has probably outshined most forwards when it comes to generating offense. That hockey sense and those hands are something else.

Skill wise this Swedish team is (should) be very good, with several potential first rounders eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Liljegren, Erik Brännström (if he grows an inch or two), Lias Andersson, Jesper Boqvist, Rickard Hugg, Elias Pettersson could all be top 30-40 picks next year and with that kind of talent, I expect to see this team perform much better.

The passing game and speed through the neutral zone used to be the trademark of our junior national teams just 5-10 years ago. The last few years we have seen a major worsening in those areas, it's now a weakness. There have been quite a few passengers on this team so far, more players must want to make a difference.

Nylander (at times) and Liljegren are really on a different level from the rest. Andersson and Boqvist can dominate in J20 but I've barely noticed them so far in this tournament.

Look at the shoots stats, do not make this to a bigger deal than it is. Result at this age is just a fun bonus.

If we need speed we could always have added, Weissbach.

we always had poor coaches in sweden. We always rotate the same ones also. Torgny Bendelin has been around for like 25 years. Where are the young ones? Roger Ronnberg is the only one I consider good.

GMG tomorrow!

I noticed Davidsson has been missing the last two games, reason?

We need to see more Liljegren on the ice and less Tilander, brutal game by him.

Can we bring it home this time? sweden has a habbit of losing finals. Consider that this team is a very young team, where most key players are 2017 draft players, it would be little extra fun if we did it.

Finland has at least 11 2017. Sweden has I think 10 + one 2018.

Both very young and impressive teams.
