That would be a huge upset if Russia takes it. This U.S. team is easily the class of the tournament. Canada looked horrible against Latvia so I say Sweden hands them a pretty big thrashing as they advance to the finals against the U.S.

You're running on pure assumptions now. Latvia actually had close games against everyone, including Sweden.

The score vs. Sweden was 3-2 up until the 50th minute or so. Latvia isn't as bad as you think and Canada had a bad case of overconfidence. We almost made them pay for it, but alas.

Still, the Canadians can easily beat Sweden.

I was a bit surprised that Gauthier started in net in the QF against Latvia, and I wasn't sure that Alnefelt would be Sweden's starting goalie, either. They both played well in their respective quarterfinal so today's game should be interesting, although Canada's depth makes them the favorite in that game.

Just because canada had a day off doesnt mean they do it again.

Sweden has never knocked out canada in playoffs at junior level. We're like 0-15 or so.

Russia actually looked sharper than the US imo, at least in the first period. They're playing a more confident game and creating much more in the offensive zone than in the 1st match. Looks like a good game so far and will probably get more interesting along the way. Some of the refs' calls are quite questionable though.

Eh, just off the top of my head Sweden knocked out Canada at the 2016 & 2017 U18 WC.

Can't watch this Russian team, such a ****ty one... If Americans don't beat it, then they will be even ****tier...

They're not playing too bad today though. They're winning so far after two periods vs. the US and so far the US is 0 for 6 on the PP, so the Russian defence has been doing a good job on the PK. Of course, they should slow it down with taking penalties.

Russia gets the starter!!

shorthanded off an aggressive play on the American goldenboy Hughes...........................1-0.

Yep, Hughes didn't expect to be forechecked like that. Nice to see that from the Russian team.

Russians are always much better the second time you play them in a tournament. Still don't think they will pull it off.

Hughes too lazy to skate back hard to retrieve the puck, leading to a shortie against. No excuse for that, he just got on the ice and couldn't have been tired. Part of the reason I don't like forwards on the point ...they simply don't understand the risk/reward scenarios back there on D, which are completely different than at forward.
Also, when he was there, he didn't bother to stop and fight for the puck, but instead did a flyby, waving his stick in the general area of the puck? What's up with that?

Great play by the Russian to win the fight for the puck, and feed his teammate out front- all by himself- where were the rest of the USA players?

He did win the foot race though, the Russian steeped into him and stole the puck after Hughes picked it up. It was a soft play and he gave the puck away because of it, and his 2 teammates also did nothing to either cover the 2nd Russian in the slot or attack the puck carrier. US looks disjointed all around.

As I have been saying all along, it's easy to look awesome when you are playing Latvia. The true test is when you are playing a top team. Then let's see what you've got.
