One goal each side in 3 on 3 OT. Price from Rehkopf with the Canada goal. Then it was a five man shootout with Berkley Catton scoring the only goal on Ratzlaff.

Only the third period to work with, but I liked quite a few of the forwards' efforts.

Defensemen were more of a mixed bag. Unfortunately for Parekh, he wasn't able to really put Team Canada in an uncomfortable position when it came to his play, unlike Sennecke.

Parekh was pretty steady in the first and started to have mistakes creep into his game in the 2nd and was mostly just invisible in the 3rd. If he gets into the game tomorrow hopefully there's a little more open ice and maybe a PP or two so he can play to his strengths, that's the reason you'd be taking him if you take him.

Not sure why the refs had the whistles away. Though it was a relatively clean game, it certainly shouldn’t have been a penalty free game. The coaches need to look at some special teams. Like you mentioned, a guy like Parekh absolutely needs a PP or two to show his worth. I can guarantee that the game vs the US will NOT be penalty free.

He was fine outside of one or two bad turnovers. I don't think any defensemen really stood out with the exception of Gibson, but to me that makes sense against a much older, stronger opponent. There just wasn't much ice out there to make plays - certainly not a style of play that would give you a good look at Parekh's strengths. In saying that I don't think this game did him any favors.

Slovakia up 2-0 after the first.

After a start with a slight edge towards Slovakia, the Germans took over the game for a while generating some decent scoring chances. A couple of stupid penalties resulting in a lengthy 5-on-3 for (not that lengthy as they scored pretty quickly) shifted the game back in favor of the Slovaks (please help me out here is it Slovaks or Slovakians?).

It's so unusual for me to be able to watch one of the pre-tournament games on youtube without hassle. And even with commentary from the Canadian broadcast.

Now 3-0 Slovakia after the second.
The Slovaks still missing several (I think they said 7) players. So, they are not nearly at full strength, which is probably a factor why the German team kind of hangs around. I am not unhappy with the way this team plays this game, but it is also clear that they will a difficult time avoiding relegation.

The Slovaks are clearly more skilled and deserve the lead, even though I expected them to dominate possession a little bit more. I hope they do well in the tournament.

We are missing 5 of our top 6 forwards and 3 best defensemen. But the Slovak team has lots of motivation, the bottom 6 forward sports are basically anyone’s to grab if they play well enough. So that’s why there may be some extra juice, guys don’t want to go home right now. Especially when those roster spots are so wide open.

I have to imagine that for some of the decision makers they are unhappy about Sennecke. It's harder to cut him now. Shouldn't be that way but probably is to some degree.

I'd have to assume he plays again tomorrow, will be interesting if his deployment stays the same.

I mean, he's not a perfect prospect but hard to find better chance generators than him.

That explains why we were keeping it close. We are only missing two top 6 forwards, due to injury, so this is pretty much as good as it gets, even if I had made a couple of different choices with the roster, there is no glaring absence.

In the end Slovaks win 3-1. There was one somewhat scary moment just before Germany went on the power play where they scored their goal. As one of the refs went into the fray trying to break off some after the whistle stuff, he went down face first and his leg came up and hit one of the German players (Lenny Boos), who was kneeling in the head with his skate. Thankfully he only bumped against the loosely hanging helmet, but when skates go up into the head area it always makes me nervous.

Not a bad game overall. I hope Pobezal will be alright, he did not play in the third I think.

Yes I assume he plays again tomorrow. If he has another good game and doesn't get picked it pretty much renders the idea of a camp, at least in terms of team selection, useless.

Czechs have three cuts to make. Hoping for no injuries. Expect a very tight Latvia exhibition game. Expect a big loss to Canada. I don't care about the loss. Hope it weeds out our 3 weakest guys. Hope for no injuries. I would rest the starters. Last thing I want is a 3-2 OT win and to have injuries to sale, jiricek and hrabal.lol

Quite a mistery box. Good defense and 2 forward lines + a #10 overall draft pick, but lacking depth after that. I'd say if we had more depth, we could be dangerous.

How would you rate your goaltending? Lendak looked pretty good to me in the first game against Germany.
Do you have a clear cut number 1 this year?

Nice start for Slovakia.

Looks quite good, but not great. We did not have a clear cut #1, but looking at the games and season, I think Lendak might get the spot
I thought Urban would be the clear nr. 1 but i don‘t know the other goalies besides him, just based off of the u18 WJC with the 05s
