Honestly I agree. Obviously Finland is the measuring stick for everyone else. Crazy that they’ve made it easy for someone else 19/20 times the last two decades.
The intense pressure of the Canadians forced the Finn's to try and make decisions faster. Decisions they couldn't make fast enough which let Canada continue pummeling them in their zone.So are you trying to say that in that 5ish minute period Canada made Finnish players make poor clearances or poor break-out passes? Because the Finns had time for both but failed on execution.
You mean the 6'1" Duncan Keith? He just can't make high-end plays that our defence desperately needs. He's had a lot of time on the blue-line with the puck, but he just ends up getting a weak shot from a bad angle, it hit the goalie, but that's not enough when we have Finland on their heels. Overall, he's seems too casual and soft. I'm not looking for Chris Pronger, but I'm looking for some intense defence that can pin the Fins on the wall and win 1 on 1 puck battles in our end.
We can't do that right now with defence. Duncan Keith is 5'10-5'11 and he makes it extremely difficult on forwards. We don't need size, we need intensity and physicality.
Hunter has to try to coach some of this cuteness out of them. Not every play can be a tic-tac-toe. Shoot for rebounds, see what happens, etc. Have guys without the puck drive lanes and open up space. They have a big enough team to succeed at doing that, and they can consistently get shots through from the point.
I was just going to post the same. Short tournament with players not used to systems or each other. Keep it simple and basic.Hunter has to try to coach some of this cuteness out of them. At least Brook and Suzuki have looked good
