GDT: [WJC] Germany vs. Austria, 10pm EST 10/8/22

One of your best offensive players (at least in theory) picking up 11 minutes of penalties in probably THE most important game of the tournament is not exactly the way to go.

Don’t really agree with the major penalty. Looks bad but this is a nothing play and there is no injury IF the German player didn’t try to avoid/side step the hit. The Austrian player was committed to the check and he didn’t intentionally stick his knee out.

Pretty insane that Austria has a double underager on their first line and he‘s produced 2 points so far.

Ian Scherzer is poised to play in 4 WJC…

As I mentioned earlier, it’s players like this who I would never know if it wasn’t for this tournament and HF.
Surprised that the announcers haven’t mentioned it more - even though Austria isn’t the greatest of teams, having essentially a 16 year old playing top line minutes is a VERY notable achievement.

He‘s tied Connor Bedard as the highest scoring ‘05 at this tournament so far with 2 points! lol

How do you go 30 minutes 6 goals and then 30 minutes with 0 goals while having a 5 minute powerplay?

Did Austria even pull there goalie at the end?

Alright - I’m off to bed. Big win for Germany. more than likely Off to the semi’s for the second straight year and only the second time in history if it happens. Thank god for a weak group lol.

Big games from Bugl, Munzenberger, Glotzl, Szuber, Blank, Samanski and Eham.

Austria’s most noticeable players were Peeters, Scherzer, Auer ( not in a good way), Reinbacher.

Good night all, glad I stayed up ( going to regret saying this later…)

After Rossi and Kasper they just write it off as an everyday occurrence :sarcasm:

Overall, score is kinder to Austria than it could or should have been. Wraneschitz continues to be a rock for them, going above .900 behind the team like that is no easy task. Wallner and Auer meanwhile continue to pretty much suck, considering the expectations for them. Peeters is also sort of great as usual for Austria, his numbers in Halifax also don't make much sense but whatever, that's past him.
