This is just embarrassing, I don't know what else to say. We left the 6'2", USHL drafted Maximilian Haselbacher at home to bring two local goalies, one is 5'10" and the other is 6'0" plays like 5'10" and they haven't been able to block shots. We almost left behind the only player who's scored an even strength goal. We have no good forwards and our defensemen can't get in on the scoring either because we're not drawing powerplays because you have to have puck possession to draw powerplays. This is sad, and barring a new team showing up against Belarus we will be relegated.

Belarus has a decent team, also Dave Lewis gave them some hints. 10 players from this squad will be eligible for the next year WJC-18. I really like that 16 years old guy who plays in Toronto, Artyom Anosov, and the captain Maxim Sushko, who is also 16. He led his junior team in average scoring this season with 30 points in 21 games while most of his teammates/opponents were 19-21 year old.
Their youngest player is 5'6". Hopefully he will grow up.

It is really nice that so many underagers are there, but Belarus in recent history often picks underagers only not to bring them back next year. Just a product of having a deep prospect pool.

france could have helped us today but too many unforced mistakes
so it's official - the game between belarus and germany on friday will be for promotion

as for underagers in our team: i have no questions about sushko, anosov being here, but still don't like the choice of nazaryan, drozdov and have some doubts about 99 d-men. we could have used some older guys.

I'm wondering how much better the Belarusian junior teams would have been if those home grown guys weren't forced to accept Russian citizenship because of the limit on foreign players? Three of them could play at this WJC-18. Not to mention Karnaukhov and Kodola who never played at the WJC because they're not good enough for Russia.

Good now, Austria are playing as with their lives on the line.

I guess it's illegal to post the direct link. You can find streams on onhockey .tv

Yeah, thanks. It seems one team wants this a lot more than the other. One team can lose and still be promoted. The other needs at least a point to avoid relegation.

Austria takes a lead. 4:2. Looks like Belarus is already thinking about the Friday game vs. Germany. Plus terrible goaltending.

Not over though, refs are trying hard to keep Belarus in the game.

And there are cheerleaders for a U18 game?

If the refs were trying they won't have called a penalty for the foul on Austrian goalie and called a couple blatant hooks.
You know, every high-school team has cheerleaders in the US. What's surprising here?

Kirill Ustimenko would have helped this Belarus team a lot. Damn those greedy Russians.

Uh...half the Belarus team would've been thrown out for checking to the head...it is a penalty you know...if you look at the penalty summary it's very one sided, and mostly very petty stuff...

Yes but they hired cheerleaders. High school cheerleaders are high school students, but here they went out and hired cheerleaders...perhaps they felt it was a necessary expense? I don't mind but it feels a little out of place haha

Austria entered Belarus zone 7 times and scored 5 goals on 12 shots. What are you complaining about? Belarusian players are way faster and get hooked every minute. Just like when that penalty shot was awarded.
They didn't hire cheerleaders, this group works for hockey federation and KHL Dinamo Minsk on permanent basis. And Dinamo Minsk get money from the state budget, that's not a privately owned team.

A small team hooks, a big team cross checks. We've gotten like 20 minutes for hooking but yall have been cross checking or checking to the head and not gotten any calls for it.

Interesting, didn't know Dinamo Minsk was state funded. Makes sense in that case though.

Ok, good game, the last 20+ of which were just an extended 5v5 penalty kill. Austria were really dirty at times but the trademark style of an Austrian youth team is giving opponents that feeling of a grain of sand in your eye.

Germans just a step away from Aufstieg.

Shots on goal 38-16. Missed penalty shot was a killer.
Now Belarus needs only a regulation win against Germany. Gonna be tough to do with that goaltending.

The problem with Austria is that they pass to spots, not people, and that's ridiculous because they're never big enough to win the battles for the spots. Barring some miracle this game is over.
