Germany
Sweden - Germany 11 - 1

What happened?

I am not sure why anyone would be surprised by that result. It was pretty much what I expected before the game.

Our goalies are nothing special this year, the defense is not great (especially at defending) and our forward group is rather young for the most part, and our most talented players are at least 1 year away from having a real impact at this level (if they even get there).

Unless our respective goalie in any of the first three games against USA, Finland and Canada absolutely stands on his head, I expect three double digit losses. Maybe they can keep it to 8 or 9 goals against vs. Finland (not sure how good their team is this year).

If they can avoid relegation, they should be a bit better next year, and the year after that we should have decent team, by our rather low standards.

Who will be the starter?
Pertuch is the No. 1. But Germany usually gives every goalie a game and then the best one will play knockout or relegation games. No true starter role in that sense.

I wouldn’t expect three double-digit losses but two (against Canada and USA) would not be surprising at all.

You never know...especially on bad teams goalies tend to be wildcards in WJC20 tournaments but Pertuch is a really good goalie. He's got plenty of experience playing vs men already and he's done well for Germany in international games, too. Should normally be one of the top goalies of the tournament but we'll see. If he's on top of his game he certainly has the ability to keep that German team in games. The other German goalies are interesting as well but are way more green and younger.

Sweden - Germany 11 - 1

What happened?
I haven't seen the game but I watched both of our teams matches against Slovakia and I watched Sweden vs Canada. Just pre tournament games of course but I have to admit that SWE vs CAN was on a completely different level considering speed an skill. So I guess this result shows how "good" the german team is this year. Looks like the gap to the top teams is even bigger this time.
