WJC 2022, Take Two

I think this will be a rather interesting tournament on a few accounts, obviously first being no Russia. But also, what will rosters look like? Will more nhl teams opt to not release guys who have shots at playing in the NHL? And what will attendance be like for an august event?

Czechs are sending a younger team... from what I can gather, to me, it looks like they want to prep the team better for the Winter one again and are using this as a proving ground.

Left behind the 2 most likely starting goalies in Malek and Malik
Left behind Krutil (a drafted D for us)
A few more drafted players that may or may not have made an impact
I'm curious if whoever drafts Jiricek lets him go?
and, most importantly, Pavel Novak (our 1st line) has cancer and is currently dealing with that and not prepping for the season.

Looks like a younger team incoming for the most part. I'm expecting us to get beat pretty soundly to be honest...

smart move. unfortunate what happened in Dec/Jan, but using this as a summer prep for '23 tournment is wise. very wise indeed. I'm imaging Team Canada will be majority '03 born players...and a few even younger.

It's interesting for sure. Don't get me wrong... Even with those guys we weren't medalling so it isn't a big deal.

Bedard show for Canada I hope!

I think he should be eager to show up considering he'll likely not want to leave any doubt in anybody's mind that he is 2023 1OA pick. A tournament without Bedard will be disappointing.

I'm hoping that Canada trends in that way as well. I'll probably attend games at the 2023 tournament and I've never been that interested in the announced summer edition of the 2022 WJC, so for my own interests a young but solid team is ideal in August.

I'll be missing it so watch the Czechs get their first medal since 2005 and I found out after the fact.lol

I'm curious to see how many players from the original tournament are not included this time around.
Could we see some top players bow out so they can prepare for NHL training camps?
I also wouldn't be surprised if bottom-of-the-lineup guys are replaced by younger, better players who have developed further since December.

I think tossing the stats is wrong; Power had a hatty, the first Canadian Dman to do so and Bedard had 4 goals in a game.

They shouldn’t lose their achievements over IIHFs panicky shut down. Hell Power may not even play in August

Can teams come with different rosters? As an Islanders fan I would love to see Aatu Raty who had to be sidelined for Covid(and I am guessing a lesser chance of seeing William Dufour)

If you want to keep the stats you would have to count the games already played wich would be stupid and is literally impossible since Russia has been expelled. I am sure your boy Bedard will have plenty opportunity for stat padding against the bottom feeding teams again.

I'm more about Power due him being the first Canadian Defenseman to score a hat trick in the WJC

He will be padding his stats against everyone.
