GDT: WJC 2022 Dec 23 Pre-Tournament, 4 games!

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Someone else asked too..

They changed it a few years ago.

No one was really asking for a change but they still changed it.lol

Then they didn't really use it anywhere even though it's been like this for awhile.

The one reason I was given is that there is no 'republic' that is a first world country and that they weren't really a Republic. So they changed it to 'Czechia' which sounds a lot like Chechnya which is also not a first world county.lol No offence to Chechnyians of course. That's one version though. I don't know a single Czech that likes it or fully understands it but maybe one of our posters does and wants to correct me.

The jersey was changed to Cesko (Ch-esko) which is what a Czech would call it. I'm hoping they ditch Czechia and adapt Cesko. FTR.. I was fine with Czech Republic. Czech. Cesko would be good too.

I will not be changing my handle to 'Czechiaboy' any time soon.lol

Perfetti with a great sneaky pass to Xavier B. Power looks great. I'm an Oil fan so I'm not used to 2 PP units but both have been good for Canada. Russian Goalie has been very solid! I know nothing about him but he's looked good.

It's how it's called in most of Europe anyway. They just finally stopped being hipsters and joined almost every other Eastern/Central European nation with "Latinized" version of the name in "nationality + ia" format like Lithuania, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, etc.

I think he is the top talent at this point. The whole not having him available to your team for like 3 years after drafting him will make things even more interesting in that regard though.

Thank you for sharing that. I always remember my Professor in my 1st year university class (1982) talking about Bosnia and Herzogovina (and me having no clue what he was talking about) back when Yugoslavia was still a country. Of course Wiki not being a thing, I had to do some research to understand what he was yakking about. Ever since, I’ve always been interested with the Balkans, former USSR satellite countries and other communist Bloc nations and their place in history and period evolutions. So much rich history and of course, unfortunate circumstances as well. Of course my own Slavic heritage influences my interest in this as well.

I think if you're the worst, or close to the worst team in the league no one is going to be the difference between that and winning thd cup in the next 2 years. Plus they get him for 7 years anyway regardless if he starts in his D+1 or D+3. You take the best guy and if you have to wait for him for 2 years, oh well.

Right but if the difference between Bedard and Michkov enough to pass on Bedard and wait on Michkov for 3 years? They are both exceptional prospects and I don't think it is outlandish to think that will be a factor to some teams. Whether it should be or not is an entirely different conversation lol
