Louie Belpedio (Miami University) — Skokie, Ill. — Not the tallest defender, but physically stout and one that doesn’t shy away from contact, Belpedio is a solid two-way defender. He has good puck skills to get the puck up ice and has shown an ability to get pucks through to the net as well. He has 20 points from the blue line this year including seven goals. With three goals in his last five games, Belpedio is getting hot at the right time, too. NHL Central Scouting Ranking: 107 - TheHockeyNews Player Profile - Circulartheory
Team USA’s captain at the under-18s, Belpedio is a toolsy, two-way defenseman who can play in a lot of situations. The Miami University commit has good hockey sense and is a right-handed shot, which is coveted by many NHL teams. Draft eligible in 2014. - Belpedio invited to USA Junior Camp
Belpedio served as captain of the U.S. National Team Development Program last season. He was a steadying influence on the blue line, posting 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) in 26 games against United State Hockey League competition. He also finished with a +5 rating. He also played for Team USA at the U-18 IIHF World Championship in Finland, helping guide the team to a gold medal in that tournament. - Dallas Stars fansite has article with small blurb about Louie
Belpedio is a highly intelligent two-way defenseman who has been rising up the draft rankings over the past year. He's an excellent skater with has top end offensive skills and awareness but also is a good shutdown defender in his own right. He isn't the biggest player and his physical play is not as strong as other players. However he's going to be drafted on the basis of his offensive game and his ability to shutdown players using the stick rather than the body. He's committed to Miami University in 2015.
