Elite Prospects

Player type: dangler, offensive defenseman, PP specialist

"Smith is not simply reading momentum; he’s dictating it. He uses lateral movement, shot fakes, and constant changes of direction to turn defenders’ feet before attacking in the opposite direction. Away from the puck, Smith gaps up early on opponents between the blue lines, closes on them with force, and makes opponents pay a physical toll for getting to the net-front."

In his post draft interview, Madden mentioned that our late scout Glen Cochrane, was still out scouting western Canada throughout this season until his passing. Tarin Smith was one prospect he was really keen on, so naturally they were pretty thrilled to land him on draft day. A bit of extra reason to root for this kid.
