So the reason I went to day 1 of the draft is because I attended a hockey career conference that annually takes place at the draft. It is essentially just a couple of days of panels from some names in the industry (Jeff Marek, Doug MacLean, Julie Stewart-Binks to name a few). One of the panels consisted of agents and a single draft prospect who is represented by that agency. Who was that draft prospect? None other than Lucas Pettersson! Nothing he said on the panel was particularly notable (his agents did most of the talking), but what a coincidence!

Elite Prospects

Player type: dangler, speedster, two-way center

"Pettersson constantly keeps opponents guessing, working a sophisticated delay game to create space for himself and connect with trailing options. If the defenceman steps up, he explodes against their momentum and into soft ice for a scoring chance."

"An offensively gifted center who can set up his teammates in scoring positions from anywhere on the rink. Possessions a good wrist shot which he use with accuracy from the slot for good scoring chances. Overall, a mature two-way center which the team can relly on in any game situation."

Athletic/Pronman

Tier: projected to play NHL games
Skating: NHL average
Puck skills: NHL average
Hockey sense: NHL average
Compete: high-end

"Pettersson was a productive player at the junior level in Sweden and a leader for its U18 team. Pettersson is a skilled forward with good speed who can make a lot of difficult plays. Pettersson’s motor is excellent, too. He wins a lot of battles, and despite his size, he excels in the tough areas of the offensive zone. He’s not the most dynamic player you’ll ever see, but the sum of the parts looks like a potential bottom-six forward or fourth-line center in the NHL."

Athletic/Kloke

"'(Pettersson) is one of the best characters I have ever coached on an under-20 team,' Modo under-20 coach Emil Svelander said. 'Lucas is a leader and even demanding of me as a coach. He wants to know the purpose of why we are doing things. A very good leader for the team.'

Among his intangibles, Petterson’s drive makes him play and look a lot bigger than he stands. Pettersson is at his best when he’s winning battles and creating offence from all areas of the ice. His two-way game should help him remain a centre in the NHL."

Is there any guys from the cup win in the Ducks organisation now? Samuel Påhlsson lives in Örnsköldsvik and just got elected to the board of MoDo. So, if so you should have had good scouting input.
