Not all shots have to be directed at the net. Splitting hairs as to whether he intended to shoot from his own corner seems somewhat arbitrary.

Zib was clearly shooting the puck, it wasn't a pass and he caught him on the follow through.

If that doesn't qualify I'm not sure what would. And they said that the refs we're explaining that they didn't miss the call but that it was the continuation of a normal hockey play.
