Winnipeg gets Marcus Pettersson
Penguins get Dylan Samberg

What would need to be added in this deal to complete this trade? Pettersson is a pending UFA and arguably the best LD available in the market this year, while Samberg is a pending RFA that hits UFA in 2026. The idea here is that the Jets get the better player today to help on their cup run, while the Penguins get a bit younger of a replacement that will be around for another few years (ideally).

I can see an argument both ways for the Penguins needing to add (since Samberg is cost controlled for another year) or the Jets need to add (Pettersson is better and one of the top pieces available at the deadline), so I'm curious for who people think need to add here.

Not a snowball's chance from the Jets. Samberg is arguably the 2nd best Dman on the team. Pettersson is not better than him now.

Pettersson is still better than Samberg, I know Samberg has had a great year so far but Pettersson has like 3 years of playing at or above the level Samberg is playing at now.

If Jets fans are sold on Samberg being a top-4 DFD going forward, I think it makes sense to say no to the proposal. I still think Pettersson is better but I was under the impression that Winnipeg wanted a top-4 D upgrade.

Samberg reminds me of Dumoulin who was also more of a late bloomer, so I wouldn't blame Jets fans for wanting to stick with him based on his breakout this year.
