Are you sure? I thought the negotiating window was one year to the date of the last contract signed. That would make life easier for Chevy in what will be a busy offseason.
It is a 1 year negotiating window. Not sure if teams and agents don’t at least talk in broad terms before that, but nothing can be signed until July 1.

So KFC could sign July 1st, even though his one year negotiating window doesn't start until September 28th? Because he was an RFA when he signed that contract. I honestly have no idea how that works.

Also wrong thread I guess.

I wonder if they're using this season to see if they can get Stan to a place where he's playoff ready?

The one biggest knock on him is his speed and agility, but the breakdowns that allowed the Avs to expose him so badly were happening to other D 2, and it was a team breakdown.

Too much separation between D and F leading to turnovers and failed clears, not enough pressure by the F through the neutral zone causing the D to back off the blueline allowing easy entries, and not enough forward support at the offensive blueline led to of man advantages and less aggressiveness by the D.

2 things the Jets must improve if they want to have success this year:

Figuring out how to counter teams' stretching them out to circumvent our 5 man forecheck/ possession game, and

Recognizing that you can't always make a pretty exit with possession. Sometimes, you just need to break the other teams cycle.
Arniel has directly said they are trying to get Stanley up to a top 6 role this season.

I'm not confident he'll get there this year, or ever. Playoff hockey is a lot faster and Stanley still struggles with pace in the regular season. 3LD isn't that hard a position to fill via trade, so I hope the Jets make a realistic assessment of Stanley before risking another playoff season with a D that was deemed unplayable last playoff, even with two LD injured.

With Stanley the other problem is penalties. The Jets can't afford to put Central opponents on the PP often in the playoffs.

Oh, I'm not saying he will, just trying to figure out what the plan is. A big rangey guy who has some physicality to his game and has a good first pass is a real luxury and you can see that in Stanley. I think its attractive to see if you can get a player like that to that point.

It's hard to assess Stanley's rookie season, when he got a full 8 games in the playoffs, because he only played 6 teams that year, at least half of which were not great quality, and the whole bubble and taxi squad were unique experiences.

Last playoff he made a nice outlet pass that led to Schmidt's goal. Tied game 4 up at 1-1. Schmidtty -5 in 3 games was a product of poor defending, and it extended not only to Stanley but Samberg's -7 results, who also got caught in Neal Pionk's game 5 yips.

I don't know if us fans can build the perfect team out of all the pieces here. The defensive transition that comes with Chynoweth as a coach has led to more speed, and it's certainly a team desire to play Logan with a faster skater to cover for him.

Where it all settles by playoff time still has to go through the rigours of 46 more games, and so far the pace of losing one d-man every couple of weeks.

I saw Ryan Lindgren posted on the main boards, and that's a guy who has gone through some playoff battles, I'd see a good fit there, if he came to play.

I hope that Arniel as a veteran coach sees toughness as something that is a regular season necessity but when the games aren't for points, but survival, skill and compete are the top qualities.

If the 6, 7, 8 and 9 defensemen all get experience this year, that's 4 depth players who have experience playing against the best competition so far with varying results in the team's success, and should be better for it, when their number gets called.

Its interesting to think of the actual importance of a third pairing

Right now the teams we have to go through have solid third pairings...
Bischel-lyubushkin, hague-whitecloud, edmundson-spence, merrill-bogo

All.of these third pairing guys have special teams roles...

Right now if we get jomo locked down into a shutdown role like last playoffs we have all the same challenges

Fleury-miller does seem comparable but we are still weak compared to dallas and las vegas D... kings too if doughty is on his game

I just dont think we have the luxury of developing stan and heinola come playoff time... unless heinola starts scoring which seems unlikely.

But, we do have the best goalie who is the best defender of them all.

I'm just glad that people are bitching and debating the bottom D pairing instead of the top line. It means our issues are getting less significant

Once this is settled, the same people that complain about this can move on to other important debates, like who the assistant equipment manager should be
