OT: Winnipeg Blue Bombers 2025 Thread - Here we go again

The Lemonator gets suspended again
The article kinda made me chuckle

Lemon is currently serving an indefinite suspension for betting on CFL games, including one in which he played.

So like..how does that work? Indefinite + 2?

Reminds me of watching cartoons growing up. Can't remember which it was i watched growing up but i remember there being a plot point where a guy is like "MY POWER IS INFINITE" only for the protagonist to go "yes well my power is actually infinite + 1 so i win"

Same rules apply here, i presume?

Haha pretty much. Basically if he's ever re-instated from the indefinite ban then signs with a team he'd be suspended for the first two reg season/playoff games that team plays after he signs.

Surprised they brought him back to be honest, was he injured last year?. If he wasn't that really doesn't bode well for the Bombers second qb
I'm not even sure if Strev will be available at the outset of camp. He got an extremely dirty hit in the knee around Labour Day I think? I know it was a Rider who did it, one who injured multiple QBs last year. Missed rest of the season.

At this point though, he was all that's left. And money doesn't really matter, seems Bombers should have plenty of cap room with massive cap raise that was announced super late and they didn't seem to hit anywhere in FA. My guess is the Bombers have a ton of room to maneuver here, but not really many players left to target that money on.

I suspect the Bombers know CFL free agency is a waste. As big of a fan as I am of Ford and Lawler, those contracts are awful. Hamilton paying $105k more for Lawler than Schoen? LMAO, Fools! Ford is the next Suck Chungh, a good player with a boated contract. At best he becomes an area not to throw the ball into.

Shea patterson or cam duke would have been my options... at least theres a chance they are heir apparent when collaros.retires after gc

Yeah, Miles Brown DL for Sask took him out at the Banjo Bowl with a dirty helmet-to-knee hit. Had a headshot on Collaros the week before that caused him to miss a drive (I think). Also took out Dru Brown earlier last season. The man was going around and racking up a body count on QBs and we still had to listen to Sask fans tell us he was not dirty, but unlucky or perhaps misunderstood.

Anyway, I’m pretty meh on the Streveler signing. As a conventional backup QB, he’s not great, but he’s a useful tool for an offence when utilized correctly, especially now that you can put two QBs on the field at once. Pierce did not know how to use him (like at all) and I think he was playing hurt a lot of last season. Now that Pierce is thankfully gone, we might see more utility out of Streveler.

It makes even more sense if we actually did sign Dukes. Streveler can be used in the Prukop role while Dukes is the true back-up. I thought Dukes looked fairly decent in Toronto but there’s probably a reason why he hasn’t been signed yet.

I wouldn’t say CFL free agency is a waste. A lot of the key pieces to the 2019/2021 Grey Cup wins came to us through free agency — Stanley Bryant, Andrew Harris, Nic Demski, Darvin Adams, Adam Bighill, Willie Jefferson…

I do agree, though. Lawler is a great receiver but he’s not $105k better than Schoen. He’ll probably fall off a bit in Hamilton, too. Hopefully Schoen can stay healthy.

Ford is a good player but that’s a ridiculous contract for a DB. Helps that he’s Canadian but the Bombers don’t need to worry about the ratio with all their other starters. They’ll find a good American DB on a rookie contract again.

I will say this is the least excited I’ve been about the Bombers for a while. After the first two Grey Cups I was looking forward to seeing our offence just butcher teams with Oliveira, Streveler, Schoen, Lawler, and Demski, and that never happened, really. I expected more from the team in the Grey Cup. Now I just kind of expect us to lose. Maybe that’s the secret to a successful season?

Still, I’m a bit concerned we haven’t done anything in free agency other than hemorrhage players. I hope the scouts are on the ball.
