Avs gotta feel like winners right now. Just won the cup and now they've almost brought every important guy from that cup run back to run it all again next year. The only question is goaltending but Kuemper didn't exactly set a high standard for Georgiev or Francouz to match in the playoffs.

Just waiting on Kadri but the longer this goes the more confident I get in the rumors Kadri really, really does want to come back to Denver and they'll figure something out to bring him back.

kthx

Sens and Columbus did well IMO.
I really like what Detroit did aswell.
Avs did what they needed to, Sakic paid a bit extra (500k-1mil) per contract but nobody cares really.

Disappointed in Bruins, basically did nothing again.

I genuinely wonder who the teams are that are after Kadri. Doesn't seem like there's many that could really afford him right now/that make sense. Anaheim I guess but they also got Strome, Seattle possibly, not sure who else. Detroit, NY, New Jersey, etc. All have their #1 and #2 center spots filled now.

Edit: oops forgot Calgary...perhaps he goes there

I could see him signing like a 5x$6.5m deal to stay in Colorado

Didn’t Avs lose Bura or is he not considered a big loss? Just an outside perspective but if Kadri walks, the Avs look weaker on paper than they did when they won the cup.

Even without Kadri and Bura, they’re the best team in the west

Oilers won because they brought back Kane but they also overpaid Campbell they lost that so they are a mix.

NYR won Big today

Ottawa is a big winner not just today but the off season in general, although I do think think trading Brown for a 2nd is a good move but they are significantly better with the additions of Debrincat, Grioux and Talbot.

Calgary lost BIG today

so did Vancouver that is a terrible contract for Mikyehev.

NYI lost today they have not been able to add the goal scoring they need so far.

Campbell is an upgrade over both Kosk and Smith--only other options would have had the oilers giving assets to get a goalie

If they lost Kadri, Bura and Kuemper how are you saying that?

Their goaltending wasn’t great last year but now it looks pathetic for a Cup defending team.

Ottawa is a big time winner, just a monster offseason so far.
Columbus ends up as another wild card winner to this date

Campbell wasn't overpaid, he got the same as Ullmark did and is a better goalie

Agreed Rangers won, that Trocheck contract will be nice

Dorion is currently frontrunner for GM of the year by a landslide. Ottawa would have to completely faceplant at this point

Calgary didn't loose today, they lost when Johnny announced he would not return. Today they didn't make any panic moves. If Johnny re-signed they would have had to pay assets to move Lucic. By not overreacting today that is not currently an issue. Nobody on the market comes remotely close to replacing Johnny too anyways. I think the correct thing to say is that they did not "win" today.

Mikheyev deal isn't nearly as bad as you are making it out to be. For a team with the worst PK in like 20 years adding an effective PKer to the middle 6 was a very good add. He does need to work on his finishing ability but I think it is overblown by 1 bad season. He still had 21 goals this year in 53 games with a pretty average S%.
Agreed on NYI, really not sure how they address that scoring issue

Any veteran team that is looking to win a Cup before the wheels fall off should be after him - without knowing their cap situations off the top of my head:

Washington, Boston, Pittsburgh if they lost Malkin, Dallas.

If Calgary wants another kick at the can, they could justify a Kadri signing too but I can understand them wanting to rebuild.

Winners:

Ottawa - seemed to make significant steps to go from stocking the pipeline to being a team that could make the playoffs

Edmonton - filled three keys positional needs (two returning players), 2 on excellent contracts with Kane and Kulak. Campbell is also an improvement on Koskinen/Smith and the value of the contract is way to early to gauge.

Losers:

Calgary - losing Gaudreau for nothing is brutal, but not through any fault of their own. Depending on where that 9-10 mil is allocated and the Tkachuk outcome, could kickstart a rebuild.

Honestly, it's cool to see another Canadian team in Ottawa with no major rivalry against my own make a big step in becoming a playoff team. Also bittersweet to see Calgary potentially not be competitive atop the Pacific with the Oilers (assuming they keep losing to us). As a sports fan in general, those ups and downs - games/rivalries are a dream.

He never came anywhere close to 21 goals prior to last season and that just happened to be a contract year, it might be true they needed a PK guy You don't need to spend nearly 5 million a year to achieve that.
