Yeah who was that reporter Steve got snide with and all, "If you have any ideas, let me know"? Haha. But not the greatest look there.

I'm not going to knock Motte in the top6 considering how much effort we were getting out of other guys there. At least Motte showed up.

I think it will be interesting to see how McLellen uses people. I thought Yzerman was clearly unhappy with deployments and I wonder if part of letting some vets go was making a more concerted effort to get Veleno, Rasmussen, and Berggren bigger roles - something which Lalonde didn't seem interested in doing.

Listing to Larks, Seider, and Kane you can tell that Lalonde just didn't bring much in the way of emotion or accountability. The fact the Kane talked about Todd's presence and him being more demanding I think says a lot.

Larks and Seider clearly feel bad but there does seem to be some relief there.

I'm still waiting for Motte to show up. It's been 34 games and I can't point to one thing that indicates he's an NHL player.

EDIT: In fact, I think the one of the best things McLellan can do right out of the gate is to tell all of the UofM boys that, "it's cute that you all went to school together down the road, but that doesn't mean shit to me, start playing like you want to stay in the NHL."

Stevie also clearly frustrated by the idiotic, repetitive question from one of the worst sets of reporters that cover any team anywhere. But that's not something new. Imagine having to answer moronic questions from Helene on a regular basis?

That would require the patience of a saint, especially if you're one of us born without the "tact" gene.

He's moving around a LOT in those first 10 min or so. It came across as anxiety to me. But I have anxiety, so maybe that's just my perception.

I just see a guy trying to be political, trying not to be too hard on anyone - even though that’s not his natural self. And that’s hard to do..

Really, really liked what Todd had to say. Especially about the nuances of physicality. It's hard, fast, and very physical game out there, and it's even more ramped up in playoff hockey. I think the room needs this type of demanding personality, and as long as he holds himself accountable I think good results will start to come again

He made the point that these player are underperforming and that more will be needed from them to succeed. Unsure if this team can get enough squeezed out of it to make the playoffs, but it's not terribly far-fetched

McLellan feels like a really great fit

Unfortunately this roster is trash and we gotta beg the veterans to even compete hard
You don't have to beg for compete if you're steering someone in a direction that yields results (unless Trevor Zegras is on your team). Anyone is going to feel neutered and throw in the towel if their boss consistently sets them up for failure.

I think we would have seen an entirely different team if Lalonde had even taken them to a "close, but not quite" level of play on a CONSISTENT basis. Almost making the playoffs last year doesn't count...that season was chaotic.
