Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

Unlike some i really wish Windsor could fine a way to be as successful and competitive as London every year. I know Windsor has more Mem Cups but you have to get there to win it. I’d take 6 OHL championships and 5 in last 13 years.
Better defense..

I agree except the memorial cup is the ultimate prize. Kinda like Eastrrn Conference champions. Not the Stanley cup
I kinda agree. League Titles are good to have. I’m also not saying Windsor wouldn’t have more Memorial Cups if they had that many chances since they have won 12 straight Memorial Cup games in their previous 3.

Agree they could be consistently in contention. Make no mistake London does that. That is huge.

If the previous owners were still here they would compete with london on the regular. It takes an ownership group willing to push boundaries and have serious pro connections. This team doesnt have those assets.
As for Nesbitt i do hope he continues to get better and live up to expectations. But i see alot of meidema in him as well. We shall see. Id love to be wrong!

hl11 will come Up with some random Numbers that will show you the spits are better every to prove Windsor is better l, don’t worry

I still remember when him and ohltg tried to make the point that get for roomed were More important than points! It was the only stat they lead at the time and despite sayijng how important it was at the time, have never brought it up again for 8 years lol

That will never happen though. First you need the players but the Knights have had the same coach for almost 22-23 straight years ignoring his short dance with the Caps that year. He still coached London for a bit that year. The Spits have had 6 different coaches the last 8 seasons and 4 over the last 3 seasons. You can never have sustained success if you're looking for a new coach every couple of years. Even after the season it was mentioned Walters might be looking beyond the OHL. Now it's another discussion whether he gets any overtures. It's not all coaching but when you know who your coach will be every year there's a comfort factor with everyone. Bowler threw a year completely away because he made a terrible hire. That alone precludes you from being consistently in contention.

I'm sure there are 19 teams that would love to be as good as London every season. Windsor's on the right track but it's not an easy target to achieve.
While I will never root for London, congrats for winning the league championship, at the same time feel Windsor and a healthy Windsor would have been a problem for London,3-3 in the regular season is proof enough for me,especially the other records these teams had against London this year including playoffs,Oshawa,London 5-2,Kingston 2-0,Barrie 1-1,Brantford 2-0,now the other top teams from the West,Kitchener ,London was including playoffs 8-1-1,vs Saginaw 3-1 and against Erie London was 4-2,Windsor in my view gave them the most trouble and the numbers prove it.
I also love the fact that London has not won the Mem Cup with a player who has graduated early, Windsor all 3 times,Ist year no Josh Bailey, the next season to win a 2nd straight time Loktionov graduated early and the 3rd time in 2017 when Christian Fischer left a year early to play in the AHL,Windsor went out a got Bracco and others and won a 3rd time.

The previous ownership looked at London like beating them was a personal vendetta. I'm not sure this "new" ownership has much (if any) of that.

Sounds like more moving the goal posts..

You were right. It is always something. Acts like the regular season means something once playoffs start.
Just like when Windsor got swept by Kitchener in playoffs. I don’t think the Spits lost to them in regular season.

REGULAR SEASON MEANS NOTHING ONCE PLAYOFFS START. Windsor would have put up bigger fight maybe then Rangers but i think Hunter would have out coached Walters like the Rangers coach did.

If you put a healthy Windsor team against a healthy London team, it's likely Knights in five or six at the most. Add in Windsor's injuries/illnesses and they would have been lucky to get a win at home. London was just that good.

Totally agree with you Long term coaches like a Hunter or Kilrea make the difference. Still doesn't make in impossible. Maybe one day the Spits acquire a owner/coach long term.
