Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

Windsorites...Have you tried Chapter 2 Craft Brewery? I hear the beer is quite good.
If you're wondering what that has to do with the Spits, I'll rephrase the question....how bout a nice beer at Chapter 2 before heading out to a Spits game ? (With designated driver on hand).

I've heard good things about it but haven't been... yet.

Give JC 4 games against these Knights and get back to me. Rangers played the 1st, 3rd, and 13th reg season offenses, WSR the 7th and 14th. Apples and donkeys.
Nice you ignore Joey went 2-2 vs London this season, team went 3-3 overall vs London
Kitchener went 2-8 overall vs London including playoffs.

Kitchener went 2-8 vs Kitchener?
More confused than ever trying to connect your dots lol.
So was Kitchener 8-2 vs Kitchener by your math?
And POs are different than reg season, so hard in Jr to equalize #s over a season. Too much changes over the course of a year.
Just saying context matters.
Spits had a very solid year, lots to look forward to. No need to try n spin n curry favour.

How did JC do against a well rested London with a banged up team playing in front of him? Not sure you'll find anyone else thinking he's better than Parsons.

I haven't been but always trust Untappd ratings. A lot in the 3.5-3.7 range. Appears solid good, not great. Should be fine, Irish dry stout appears well reviewed.

I'm hitting up a few London breweries in 3 weeks. Couple good ones there.

Pretty solid. Fan of the Danger Bird IPA. Their food is real good.

The same goalie who he questioned with struggles 2 months ago. Thinking Froggett might be the guy. Now the playoffs are done it's Costanzo all the way. There are 2 playoff goalies in another series with brutal gaa and save % but they're both having an opportunity to get to a Memorial Cup. Waxing nostalgic about a player when your team got reversed swept is certainly a decision. Still early for that imo.

A few quick thoughts on orientation camp...

- Separated into two groups to start - one worked with Torres/Newbury/Matwijiw, the other with McLlwain. Lots of skating, drills, etc.
- 3on3 to finish the afternoon.
- I'm seriously impressed with some of their skating work. The balance and control some of them had with McLlwain was eye-opening.
- McLaughlin was a beast during the drills with Torres/Newbury. The kid showed off some creativity around the net, getting reaction.
- Inskip showed a bit of his personality, think offensive agitator. When you skate by the other bench after you score and try to high-five them, that got a laugh. Very vocal on the ice, too.
- Bergeron... they need to figure out how to get him here. He was just about doing whatever he wanted out there; speed, size, offence.
- Moskowitz looked very comfortable out there. Big kid, moves well, good shot, was physical, too.
- I didn't see a ton from the goaltenders but my expectations of them aren't as high right now.
- Hausvic was another big kid, looked comfortable with the puck, strong on it, too. Not the greatest skater, but small sample size. Needs to put on some weight, too.
- Harvey had some real speed; felt like every time there was a transition and he had the puck, it was right to full speed for an offensive chance.

Nice little sample size of everything; now we see who gets signed over the summer.

They need to find a way to get Bergeron here. He looked really smooth out there. I understand hes tendered at a school next year ?

Protas has not dressed for either of Hershey's playoff games. One would think he is better than Hershey's 4th liners. This gives some weight to Protas being back in Windsor.
Some of this is about getting acclimated to being a pro. Being around adults, skating, working out etc... This along the lines of fans questioning whether Shane Wright would be productive in the AHL or NHL. He's been fine and not dressing in AHL playoff games won't dictate where he is next year.

Aside from Ty Bergeron who was very impressive yesterday at the Spits rookie camp I was most impressed with 17 year old forward Caden Harvey who was chosen in the 5th round by Windsor in this year's draft was the best player there dangerous every time he touched the puck, great speed,on ice vision, nice edge work and great speed.
As well very impressed with John Mclaughlin though he sat out the 3 on 3,his other there in the drills and skating was very impressive, Center Ian Inskip looked very solid out there, strong in all areas,
From the D side,Jesse Debruyn showed the most overall offensive and defensive sides of the puck, nice size at 6'-180, in fact had 2G,3A for his teams 13-9 win, a couple other D had solid outings notably Andrew Enright who scored twice,Luke St John who had a goal plus some good plays on both sides of the puck,Jordan Maine who played for Sun County last year had some nice moments throughout as did dman Kaden Rolling.
U18 forward Hanza Havusic drafted in the 1st round of the U18 Draft played very well too, aggressive on the forcheck.
As for the goaltenders playing 3 on 3 for 50 minutes not an easy chore, both performed admirably thought Gunner Wolfe drafted in the 8th was the better of the 2,though Hudson Cicchelli didn't play poorly, right handed catcher made me look twice don't notice alot ot them.
Overall impressed with the skating of all of them, some of them more advanced then others but a competitive group in the end that was fun to watch.
Gotta say despite the small size impressive group of players drafted by Bowler and Evola, solid players at every position .
Now last year Windsor signed 8 drafted 16 year olds,6 at the start of the year,2 more towards the end Robinson and Spicer once the colleges started accepting CHL players,1- 17 year old goalie Michel Newlove.
If I were Windsor I would try and sign 5 players right away, hearing a couple have but not announced yet,1st rounder John Mclaughlin, 2nd rounder Ian Inskip,3rd rounder Ty Bergeron ,4th rounder Jesse Debruyn, all 16 year olds,1st 3 are forwards,4th one a D,plus sign 5th rounder Caden Harvey a 17 year old forward who played with Pittsburgh Elite last season.
I could see 17 year old forward Hamza Hanusic signed assuming he has a strong main camp but starting the year in Jr B,along with Debruyn who I would start in Jr B with La Salle perhaps along with dman Luke St John in La Salle too though not signed yet.
The other player taken in the U18 Draft 6'5-225 Charlie Muskowitz played well just dont know if he is suited for D or F,with him just turning 18 needs to be figured out.
All in all great time at yesterday's session looking forward to main camp, all should be happy with how they performed, I am sure will be informed what's needed to do better.
Must admit very impressive showing by all the top 5 or 6 draft picks, and a couple others to boot, future continues to be bright for Windsor moving forward.

It may very well be some sort of injury that is keeping him out as well.

I think the Spits can negotiate his release only in the summer when hes not playing, if they want to.
It would seem to me that the positives of playing for Windsor would far out weight any negatives. He would be closer to home, and the travel would be less than the USHL. He would also receive the scholarship package, and Windsor might offer him a gold package to make it sweeter. He also retains his NCAA eligibility.

I'd imagine it'd be the same as Fitzgerald with the Petes last year. If they convince him to sign before the USHL draft then Muskegon gets their first round pick back and everyone's relatively happy. If not, then they lose the pick and are likely to make it real difficult on the Spitfires to get him. If he goes for a year I don't know how that'd work though.
