Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

Assuming the **** stuff at the end, Brocklehurst, McLaughlin, and Inskip will all find a place in the lineup on a regular basis. I'd imagine Gaymes is gone, McNamara is 50/50 based on my hearings, and Costello could be in the same boat. Regarding D, Spicer becomes the 7th D and you might have a few guys get signed for callups as the season goes along.
I see Gaymes and Costello battling for that 12th/13th spot, and sticking around for depth since their age is in their favor. However, we’re so loaded with 08s, Brocklehurst will have a shot to push them out, and McLaughlin will likely see regular ice too. Inskip, I’d guess around 40 games.

Getting Carter George would be nice, but that would be costly. You would only have him for one year, making next year a huge buy year. Newlove looked good in his few games, and Costanzo has proven he's good enough in my view.

As an OS poster mentioned, they have young goalies so you'd have to trade one of the core 08's.

I would use the assets to acquire a scorer instead, assuming Protas isn't back. If Bowler can bring in a big scorer in the import draft, they could use the assets elsewhere. The import draft will be interesting. Should be able to attract a good player, it's a desirable place to play, and you could have playing with Greentree as a selling point to the player and agent.

Long offseason, but it's a bit easier when you know the team is going to be a true contender.

With Morneau and Abraham gone and most likely Protas. That's a 111 goals to replace. Sure Nesbitt will increase his production from 25 as well as Belchetz, both of them should pop 40 Davis seems injury prone. Hoping he can get and stay healthy. Does Spellacy starts finding the back of the net more? McNamara? Gets thjn after that

Import picks should help as well as trades

It is interesting to note that London always carries a couple knuckle balls on their teams. These Guys namely Bolton, Van Bommell know their roles and are sent out when the going gets a bit rough. If the opposing team is taking some liberties on their star players the police men come out. I think there is still a HUGE need for guys like this especially if you get into a playoff series. Would be nice for us to have a couple role players that are happy to answer the bell if our stars are getting knocked around.

Knights have 9 NHL drafted forwards playing. If the day comes that the Spits have that many drafted forwards sure have a couple on the 4th line

Unfortunately we had 1 role player perfectly suited for the situations you talked about and that was Winegard, Unfortunately injured prior to the playoffs, and he would have dressed instead of Stewart and Brocklehurst when the multiple injuries occurred.

Windsor had players who could have gotten the job done, namely Gaymes, Costello, Winegard, etc. However, when you're missing eight or nine players, including Winegard, everyone who can dress is needed on the ice. We know Gaymes and Costello were more than willing to get involved but you could also see them skate away knowing they couldn't afford to lose more bodies.

They didn't get it done either..

Both are courageous souls, aggressive but kind of lightweights. Not really fair to put them up against some bigger heavier enforcer style guys. They are both in my opinion great grinder style players that believe it or not are tougher to play against in a long series. Next years team should be built with the playoffs in mind and taking teams the distance.

Trade value for Carter George? If he hits the market, you’re likely looking at DiPietro return?

DiPietro++ IMO

Gotta think his 2 game stint with the Ontario reign + getting called up to the kings will have some extra value. Plus will be team Canadas starting goalie again this year. Windsor had a lot better teams with dipietro than what Owen sound has been producing the last 3 years.

In Windsors time with dipietro their lowest amount of points accumulated was 18/19 with 60 points where dipietro left at the deadline.
From his first 3 seasons- 87, 90, 70

Georges teams he has had went so far in his combined 3 years (pretty much 2) 73pts (George played 10 games rookie year) 67 (draft year) then this year 59 pts.

Next year theoretically should be Owen sounds best team they’ve produced since George has been there but they won’t be good enough and he inevitably gets traded

Plus things are more expensive now. Overages then went for 3/4 picks, now it’s 7

If Protas was NHL/OHL next year, than I’d agree 100% he could be back. Unfortunately for Windsor, he is NHL/AHL/OHL, and after proving he is too good for the OHL this year and there’s nothing left for him here I don’t think it’s worth discussing whether he’ll be back or not. NHL teams wish they had this option for their CHL prospects that light up their leagues in their 18 year old season, returning them for their 19 year old season is not ideal as they go back and feel they don’t belong there and coast to a degree. The Capitals get that chance with Protas and you better believe they’ll take it.

Just accept it, we have seen Protas play his last game in Windsor.
