Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

Ughhhhh. Tight game. At least it was not a blowout but that also makes the loss more bitter. Congratulations to the Rangers. They found a way to shut us completely down for 4 games in a row. Parsons only allowed 3 goals in 4 games is outstanding. Joey held his own as well. Not blaming injuries as an excuse. Obviously didn't help. We lost to a great team who did finish with more points. Hoped to at least face the Knights in a classic battle but not to be. On the plus our group of rookies is outstanding . The Spits gave us a much better season than anyone expected. That deserves praise. Nothing to hang your heads about.

I will say i was also impressed with Robinson play thru the playoffs. He should be a good one.

Lack of secondary scoring really hurt this team the last 4 games.

1st game I had to hockey db him. I thought no way is he a call up wearing a cage. Must of been a face injury. 4 games in the regular season. Crazy how calm and cool he was out there. He is going to have a bright future in Windsor.

Disappointed, but it was a great season. If it wasn't for the injuries, the Spitfires win that series. Picture having Woodall, Mathurin, Belchetz, and Spellacy (played 1 game) for that series. If someone disagrees with this, please explain.

The stage is set for this squad to be a contender in the next three seasons. Two of your top 4 d-man are '08 rookies. This could possibly end up being the best rookie class we've ever had. Lemieux, Belchetz, Hicks, Robinson, Garden were major contributors.

The defense might actually be the squad's best strength next year. Hicks and Robinson are going to be elite.

One positive out of this series. When Kitchener eliminated the time and space for Greentree, he did nothing. He is not ready for the NHL and is all but guaranteed to be back next season. Not only did he do nothing, but his bad passes caused problems down the ice. Not sure if he is playing sick or through injury but the Greentree in the 2nd half of this series was not the Greentree we had all year. Even Protas was quiet. Usually, from him, we see glimpses of dominance, but he also did nothing, maybe he's back next season?

Regardless this squad is probably going to be considered one of the teams to beat next season. Only players gone for sure are the OA's, we played with two OA's anyway and maybe Protas. The experience this young core gained will pay dividends next season.

No doubt you'll be the favorite next year. You guys had an elite team that would've been final 4 if you weren't ravaged by injuries.

Hicks & Robinson played unbelievable in these playoffs and are gonna be great players for u guys.

Bowler has his faults but man oh man does he draft well. U guys r loaded. 🍻

Your Sting had a great draft. I heard the young man you drafted with your 1st pick was rated #1 by a few scouts.

I'll say more later, but...

This was heartbreaking, for many reasons. I didn't expect it to end like this but it's the reality. This is a proud group and I'm proud of what they accomplished. It sucks going out like this, in a reverse sweep and then overtime, but man, the kids played their butts off. Props to Kitchener, as well, for an outstanding series. They did something very few teams could accomplish throughout the season. Now, they get to face a well-rested, hungry Knights team that could go four-and-out.

Well... at least we made it past the 1st round this year? Ok yeah that's a bit disappointing how we ended the season but I will not fault this team that much. Most if not all of them played their hearts out. Costanzo was ridiculous today probably one of the best games I've seen from him. Hicks and Robinson stood out to me tonight they played very well. Did not look like rookies at all Im very excited for them next year. Morneau and Abraham also had a good last hurrah with the Spits. Unfortunate to see them go their prescences will be missed. Spellacy and Davis used their speed on the rush a bit tonight but unfortunately Parsons and the Kitchener D stood their ground. They completely silenced Protas and Greentree and practically turned them into non-factors. The depth also had a lot of problems getting any close or dangerous shots on Parsons. Very tight, very intense, very close battle between these 2 teams. Good luck against London ggs Kitchener 🤝 looking forward to 2025-26. A bit of OA spots to figure out and some uncertainty with certain guys coming back but I have faith this team will be very good next year. Go Spits Go!

Man that was heartbreaking. First of all credit to Kitchener and especially Ellinas. Dude was a thorn in our side since Game 3, and he deserved what he got tonight. One of those guys I’d be happy to never play against or hear about again unless it’s because we traded for him. Best of luck to the Rangers in London.

Hicks was outstanding. He hit, he scored, and did it at a position he hasn’t played. Major props to him, even being the first/only to follow Greentree in the crowd salute. He’s going to be something special.

It’s always tough to see guys move on but this was brutal. Seeing Morneau, and Abraham on the ice after the OT Winner was gut wrenching and more emotional than I’d like to admit. Abraham here for a lengthy OHL Career and Morneau a 15th round local kid, from making the team to solidifying an OA Spot. Seeing how emotional Protas was caught me a bit off guard too. I feel a lot of these Top Guys that are in for a year and gone go through the “doing my time” kinda thing, and that can’t be further from the truth with Protas. Never doubted Greentree’s heart, they shut him down, and if I had to guess, he’s been quite a bit off from 100% since the 5 goal outing. Just seeing the emotion out of these guys, and having this series end like this was brutal, especially looking at it, at how bad they wanted it just not for themselves, but eachother.

And poor Joey Costanzo, kid played out of his mind tonight. The Joey Chants were well deserved, as Ellinas had two huge breakaway chances to prevent the game for getting that deep. Parsons was great, Joey was better. Throughout the series IMO.

Excited for the future, but this is going to sting for quite sometime.

If anyone had said we were going to be this good at the start of the season I’d have called them nuts. Wish this Cinderella team could have lasted a bit longer. Kudo’s to our new coach. Bowler looked past the warts and got us a great coach. Obviously BB is a great judge of talent. As injuries mounted we were able to fill with youngsters who looked as if they belonged and that bodes well for our future. The next couple of years should be fun. Congrats Spitfires you did us proud.
