Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

Tonight will be interesting. I hope Windsor doesn't let off the gas. Get this series over with tonight and recoup for whoever we face next. Other semi-unrelated notes:

- I saw on Elite Prospects that Mathurin commited to UMass-Lowell allegedly. Good for him if true.
- I absolutely agree on our 08's they are playing very well. Seems that the 2024 draft really did pay off well.
- The U18 draft is tonight as well. We have picks 18, 38 and 58. Hopefully we go F then G then D. One of each would be nice.

Go Spits Go! :)
Might be a good goalie lurking around in that age group. That position especially in goal tend to mature a bit later. There may be a 17 year old tender that was overlooked and is starting to evolve. Judging by the results of the 08 core, the Windsor staff has really been dialing in on and picking some great prospects.......In Billy we trust.

Going for sweep tonight.
They will have to keep relying on Greentree and Protas for offence.
Joey will have to play great.
And don't get suckered into bad penalties.
The refs might be different tonight favoring 1 team..

Refs got deservedly blasted for the last game, but I expect it to be tight. Rangers need better actors to get calls. Gotta shut down Protas/Greentree and our better players need to have more of an effect on the game.

I'm going 5-3 Spits with an EN

Shocked as anyone. Honestly i didnt see this coming but here we are. Team is playing extremely well, young guys are stepping in seamlessly. Very tough road with so many injuries. Kudos to all. If i may….id like to see a bit more scoring from others, it matters for matchups. Let’s finish this series before we discuss the green team. Be real nice to do it tonight for some rest and injury avoidance lol.
Agreed for all those reasons. I would also add lots of tickets left for Friday so if worst case scenario happens tonight you might see a small crowd Friday.

Although not talked about 2 much on here with Greentree and Protas ahead of him but I think Abraham has really upped his game in the playoffs. He seems to have another level and likely understands what is on the line for him and Morneau. His pass in the first game of this series for the first goal was the play of the year! What a crazy play from his belly and looking to make a pass, and it worked! The second line not getting the accolades but they have made it hard on their opponents. Need more of that if they have any chance of finishing this series. Be safe.

Greentree is a beauty, his game will transition well to the NHL and he could be gone next season, Protas is certainly gone. Both have carried this team along with some honorable mentions like Morneau and Costanzo who have both been at the top of their games during these playoffs.

If the spitfires play like they have thru the first three games of this series then this will be a sweep. Have to come in with the same effort, determination as game 3. Need to keep their composure to end this series and get much needed rest but this ain't over till the fat lady's singing as the saying goes and anything can happen so would like to see this closed out tonight.

Go Spits Go!!!

agreed, honestly since the Michigan Tech commitment, he’s been stellar. Wonder if his hockey future was weighing on him heavily?
I could easily see how having an uncertain competitive future, could weigh on a player on and off the ice.

Would love to see them wrap this up on the road.

Would be an odd playoff stretch where we play 4 in a row on the road if we can take it tonight.

That being said, it sets up a near situation for the boys when they finally get back to play at the WFCU, where they have been dominant

No Cole Davis tonight. Losing a new player to injury every game.

No, Woodall, Belchetz, Costello, Spellacy, Mathurin, and Davis. 6 regulars out. Belchetz Spellacy and Davis are basically an entire 2nd line.

Not sure if we have any “tough” guys we can call up to fill roster spots, but if we get out to a lead early, hopefully everyone’s head is on a swivel. We can’t afford to lose another body, so throwing someone out there to match off with Ellinas, Swick and Hlacar may not be a bad move.

I’d think cause it’s playoffs, if they’re out, they CAN’T Go… but I wonder if the 3 Game Lead has them on the side of caution.

Assuming Davis went down from the slash he took? Looked a bit nasty from my seat and he’s been on the wrong side of a few interactions with Kitchener already.

They have 8 rookies in the line up tonight as Stewart draws in to replace Davis.

Greentrees line will have to play 30 minutes tonight.
He’s an 05’ so not “technically” a rookie, but the point is there…

1/3 of our lineup is 16 year olds (well, 08’s)

And well 4 guys in our lineup didn’t even play 5 regular season games this season (Spicer, Robinson, Brockelhurst, Stewart)

Next Man Up!

We’re pretty damn close to having Gaymes in our Top 6 lol (he has played a very good, smart, defensive game these playoffs! We draft the best 15th Rounders in the League!

I’m going to start complaining now. Kitchener didn’t like the refs Monday… and well I don’t like em tonight. If Joe Monette has any say in this one, we’ll all be at the WFCU Friday.

Monette has a vibe to him that feels very much like “The Spitfires went to my high school and stole my girlfriend. I’m actually better than them at hockey too, if I didn’t have that one injury, I would’ve been on the team. Now it’s 15 years later and I’m not over it.”
Can never call that guy a “Homer” for being from Windsor. We’re In for a frustrating one tonight.

As soon as I see him out there, I roll my eyes because I've never gotten the impression that he cares. "I'm here, get lost."

On another note... 18th pick in the U18 is RW Hamza Havusic, a 6'3 161lber out of Vaughan Kings U18.

Abes has played like a champion out there , as you say not a lot of accolades but is really showing up and counting when he has to.....

They been relying on 1st line all season.
Why should it stop now?
