Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

The data don`t lie pal......the player has proven himself to be soft. Math just does not add up. Many NHL players have passed through the same rink , played the same games , had the same test, got tested , had injury, persevered and passed, unfortunately this individual just has not. We are a data driven and that`s the long and short of it. We cannot allow feelings or emotions to cloud the true picture. We stand by our comment....we hope we can see him again.
I think the problem lies with the "soft" moniker you've given him.

Is Mathurin injury-prone? No question. I don't think there's anybody here that would disagree.

Is he soft because he can't play through a (pretty severe) separated shoulder? I don't believe that to be the case. I don't care if you're the toughest player on the planet, it's extremely unlikely that you (general you) are playing with that kind of injury.

So basically, soft and injury-prone aren't mutually exclusive. And I think that's why most people seem to disagree with you in this particular case.

Ok so let change gears a bit. Draft is coming. Its a very messed up mix of opinions this year after the first few. So whats everyones thoughts? Anything factual? BB has the info train locked down in certain areas, draft is one lol. Cant get even a sniff of info from anyone yet. Lots pf opinions, which im fine with. Just kinda wanna get a feel for who might be there. Cant even get a good read on position or BPA. If it’s sensitive pm me, been known to keep a secret lol.

So you equate injuries to being soft?!?! Some of the toughest players i know had to retire because of injuries. Id dare you to call any one of them “soft” !! Some of you should have played the game before you

Right? He’s a Dufus. The kid wants nothing more than to play. Like most players. Is in great physical shape, works his ass off in the gym etc. No one is disputing the injury history but him saying he should be able to play through a brutal shoulder separation tells you all you need to know.

The only thing I've read so far is Brock's OHL Mock Draft - 2025 OHL Priority Selection Mock Draft & Preview

That has a ton of names, including who the contributors think might go to Windsor. It's the only real "here's a full round" list I've seen.

My gut? Bowler goes BPA. Forward or D? I'm leaning F because you've likely got Spicer and Robinson coming up full time.

BPA for sure. We’ve got 3 picks in the Top 50. With how strong 08’ is, I wouldn’t be shocked to see our first overall pick at 21, be traded to add to the 07’ group at some point next season. Maybe it’s too forward thinking, but with 20 picks prior, I say BPA. Which is likely a forward.

Kennedy, Christoforo, Woodall, Hicks, Walton, Hicks… all return next season. Plus Robinson? And Spicer?
6th Rd Pick Wathier is an Iowa kid, in USNTDP with a Boston College commit, 8th Rd Drake Gram seems much more likely if good enough, Detroit area kid playing for Little Caesars.
Robinson seems to fit in well, with few complaints here. Include him, We have 7 returning D Men. That’s with Winegard, Eichler and Mathurin gone. Honestly… I see two of the 06’s (Walton, Woodall, Christoforo) being strong OA Candidates.

You could also deal the 21st overall at the deadline if you're making a run.

Windsor has the Soo's 2nd, I believe, which is 30th overall?! That was a conditional pick to the Rangers way back in the Bracco deal but I don't believe the conditions were met? (Likely an OA season or something)

Been a bit since I posted here lifes gotten in the way (also HF Boards being down for a bit lol) but yeah this series with Kitchener will be interesting. Calling up Spicer is concerning tho so now our D core will look even younger. Idk if the whole "Four 16 year olds thing applies". Like what is going to be our D lineup then? Is Cristo and Spellacy for sure back? Idk. Minor concern tho. As for the draft I hope they use the 1st rd pick on a forward and not a D but I wont hate it the Spits do that. Some guys I wouldn't mind them picking if they're available:

Alex Campeau (Eastern Ontario Wild)
Carter Lewandowski (Vaughan Kings)
Lucas Nutting (Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs)
Xavier Rowe (Toronto Titans)

I wonder what off-the-wall American flyers we'll get and see if we can convince them to come here

It will be interesting to see what Spicer’s got. Good size, some offense and 100 pims. Don’t need unnecessary penalties in the playoffs but perhaps he’s got some jam. Makes for 3 08’s on the blueline which will make it tough but great experience for next season. I thought they might bring up Hjelholt, has played briefly for the Spits, has size, skates well etc. 07 as well.

Man what a squad Windsor has even next year.

Sorry woodall is listed as good today too.
Just curious, where is this info at? Not questioning it, would just like to look into things.

I’ve also heard about guys being left off “playoff rosters” - a series at a time, is there a place to hunt down this info?

Appears to be a weak crowd for the game tonight. I see a lot of seats that are taken by season ticket members in the regular season that are available.

Many STH's apparently are not doing the pay-as-you-play option. Also, I assume businesses that have season tickets don't buy playoff tickets.

Should get about 6,000 for Saturday, though.

Anyways, Kitchener does not dominate its opponents. A stunning 19 of their games went to OT this season. This is a squad that relies on Parsons to win them games. A lot of their games are decided by one goal. Sometimes, all it takes is an elite goalie in the playoffs. If the Spits can solve Parsons, they can win this series.
