Windsor Spitfires 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part V

Sorry but the facts are the facts, never played more than 51 games in any season, 44, 1, 49, 51. That's the math. Love the kid, but those are the numbers. The Red Wings drafted him and did not sign him . We just have not seen you play enough. I hope for the best for him too, but it is what it is. You can be the best in the world but if your not out there to play......that's just not good enough.
All of that is true. None of it the kids fault. Sustained injuries not of the type that could be played through. Not for him or anyone else. The big boy pants comment is demeaning to the player who has wanted nothing more than to play. Be more respectful. Would like nothing more for you to walk in his shoes and make you play through it. Your position and disrespect would alter quickly.

Right it sucks that he's consistently hurt. Unfortunately the idea of "oft injured defenseman is injured again." Isn't the most surprising headline either. A GM believing he would suddenly be healthy is interesting. Kind of like believing Outwater would be healthy.

Also true

Any updates on Woodall and Spellacy? Got away with beating the SOO with a slew of injuries but Kitchener is a different beast. Need these players back asap. Neither injury appears serious but who knows. I know Kitchener has Reid and Misaljevic also dealing with injuries.

Spellacy was hoping to play Game 4? Per radio interview I believe. Game 4 would’ve been 4 days after his injury occurred, Game 1 of this series is 12 days.

I haven’t heard anything about Woodall’s being too concerning… but even if it’s a handful of stitches, do you throw him back in there wearing a cage, up 3-1 in the series, 6-2 in the game… while having 6 other D men in the lineup?

I’d figure no news, is good news with Woodall. Spellacy I want to hear is good to go. He’s had a week+ since he was ‘hoping’ to be back. I’m expecting him.

Hearing “deep” playoff run required for a return on Belchetz/Mathurin, makes me think we’d need to Get through this round for a chance to see them.

No need to rush Belchetz back from injury early, but Mathurin’s (hockey) future may be determined whether he gets some extra eyes on him this postseason or not. Fan of watching him, but our young D has stepped up.

Called up Grady Spicer (D)… okay now I’m a little concerned on Woodall.

Is this “someone’s out fill the roster spot” Or is this just a “we can now do this cause his team is done”? He’s coming out of the CCHL if that matters.

He’s a 6’3”, 180lb 08’, does the limited 08’s continue throughout the playoffs? If so, could this be due to Belchetz being out-out?

It is an automatic 2 games. On Media notes it explains that the time of the infraction rule is not in effect for the playoffs.
Weird… I think it was just about halfway thru the second?

Strange to have different rules for playoffs vs. Regular season. Not that I think guys are going to look at the clock and go “I have a minute to do this slew-foot and I’ll only Miss a game” but who knows.

I’m all for them letting guys play, but boy do I hope that the bottom half of the performing refs were also eliminated in Round 1.

So Kitchener is down Ellinas for the first two games (Top 6 F), Reid’s (Top Pairing D) banged up? Misaljevik is out injured? (Top Line F).

Spits are down Belchetz (Top 6 F), Mathurin (Top Pairing D), and Spellacy I expect back, but am counting out til I see rosters. (Top 6 F)

No excuses there, seems like both teams are missing equal pieces, Ellinas and Spellacy both to return sometime this series.

For the Conference, should note Schaffer and Terrance are yet to return to Erie. Pretty sure London’s playing with a full roster?

Really like Windsor's chances in this one. They need a strong all around 100% effort from all the boys. Obviously, the top Guns seem to be peaking at the right time. They boast some high octane guys up front with Protas, Greentrea, and Morneau. The key will be what the next waves brings. Nesbit, Abraham, Cole Davis, Specllacy, Macnamara. If these boys bring it they can surely cause fits for any defense. Not to mention the rookie group for Windsor has a tonne of speed , energy and skill and Windsor needs them to bring it all to the rink. J.C Lemieux, Costello, Gaymes, and Garden play well above their age. The Windsor defense also has a nice blend of defensive responsibility and the ability to generate offense. A good smart disciplined game from all , and a solid effort in net should bring the result they are looking for.

It feels more like depth than anything. Maybe Woodall's okay and it's just insurance.

Should be noted that he's also a Clarkson University commit for 2027-28.

Windsor has the firepower to knock his confidence way down.....they have his number.
Do they though? Parson's got pulled after 5 goals against in the first period when half the rangers team was sick, and that was on September 28th...or 72 games ago.

Since then, he was 1st star in a 3-1 loss, giving up 2 goals on 41 shots, was 2nd star in a 3-2 win, surrendering 2 on 35 shots and was 3rd star in a 7-4 Rangers win stopping 40 shots.

I wouldn't call any of that as having his number..... Just saying. I'll take Parsons and his seasons statistics, and stats against Windsor 10/10 times over Costanzo

100%

Happens a lot in Windsor.
Shoulder injuries past few years...
Feel real bad for Mathurin, might have been his last chance to showcase his amazing talent ( great skater, smart player at both ends). Lucky for Windsor they have some special 16 year old D that can step in, albeit not as experienced or as physically developed they can play effective minutes. I think we will definitely see Spellacy back.

Says the guy that claimed Mathurin should put his big boy pants on and play through it. You should get the facts before spewing misguided opinion. Just saying.

The data don`t lie pal......the player has proven himself to be soft. Math just does not add up. Many NHL players have passed through the same rink , played the same games , had the same test, got tested , had injury, persevered and passed, unfortunately this individual just has not. We are a data driven and that`s the long and short of it. We cannot allow feelings or emotions to cloud the true picture. We stand by our comment....we hope we can see him again.

If Mathurin was able to play, chances are he'd be out there. The hit didn't look good from the start and it's still looking ugly. Let's just hope that he can get fully healthy, whether that's this season or beyond. It's pretty shitty, regardless, that this is happening to him in his final season after such a strong first half.

Yes Mathurin had injury history but also likely why the Spits paid little for a previous NHL drafted overage defenseman for only a conditional 2nd 4th and a 6th for Mathurin and a 13th pick conditions not publicly released but probably were tangent on games played this year or playoff depth so the gamble was cheap and didn't work out as hoped. Yes he's needed but realistically record has been good when's he's missed games. That's not faulting Mathurin but m ord liklely team knows to try and tighten it up without him in the lineup.
