Windsor Spitfires 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iv

I know Fridays a weird night at the WFCU, and they’re up against the Wings, following opening day on this side of the border, but I’m a little surprised how many seats are still open tonight.

Been eyeing it and looks like more opened up this morning. Are these from STH not buying their seats?

Should be a good one, hoping that we can wrap this up at home. Having the last change is big, and winning with our lineup and only losing in OT on the road has me Optimistic, even if no one returns.

If you rest Christoforo and Spellacy tonight even if they’re ready, they’re looking at a full 11 days of rest from Game 2 to Game 1.

Do we have any word on Lemieux? I feel I never heard what his injury was. Not going to sway a series, but he’s a suitable depth piece IMO, that’s more trusted than Stewart/Brockelhurst at this point.
My guess is STM people used to get the 1st round free. Now after 2 home games we are charged. STM are not impressed.

Heck of a win on Wednesday up in the Soo. Resiliency after losing game 3 in OT with lots of players out and coming in game 4 with the same line-up, giving up that first goal but staying with it and coming back with 4 unanswered. Our top players came to play and so did Joey, props to them for showing up in a crucial game in this series. Now let's hope the spits come out hungry to close this series out and not take the long bus ride back up north. The Greyhounds are In do or die mode, gotta match their compete and desperation. Hope to see some or any players back tonight would be a good sign.

Go Spits Go!!👍

Yep STM got games 1 and 2 at no cost. But can't expect to get game 5 at no cost either. It gets expensive going to multiple games in 1 round, especially if you're not a STM.. Many are probably waiting for round two. Probably get 5,100 in there tonight. Game one and two against Kitchener should bring 6,000+.

STM got the first round for free for a long time. I think this might be the first season they've charged beyond G1/2. That said, the price they're charging is reasonable compared to non-STM.

With what is going on with the world right now, maybe trying to save money might be more of a priority than going to a Windsor game..

They first had 1st round free in 2020, which hsd no playoffs because of Covid. No season in 2021, and no playoffs in 2024.

Nice to put it away tonight. Thanks to 6 PP goals. Ugly at times buf I'll take it. Soo gave it a good effort. Now onto the Rangers next round. That will not be so easy. Time to get healthy. Expect a long series 6-7 games. Need to play a little more balanced minutes or Greentree and Protas will be whipped. Especially if when have a lead.

Good to get the series done in five. Players are dropping quick, tonight it was Woodall injured in the 1st and did not return.

Any word on Spellacy? He said he was hoping to be back for game 4 of the SOO series, did not play in game 4 or 5. Surprised Cristoforo is back before him. Really need Spellacy against Kitchener. His speed and physicality are needed.

Kitchener is a great team, but does not have the star power Windsor has. Kitchener relies on defense and goaltending (elite). They play a lot of close games. This series is probably going the distance.

Protas tracker: 139 points in 66 games, 38 points in his past 12 games. Spits improve to 33-4-1 at home this season.

Great to win the series, the better team won. That said this game was not pretty. Lots to clean up. A few guys are out of gas, few days rest will help. Theres zero info on Spellacy.
Some of the same old issues reared their ugly heads tonight. This next series wont give them the luxury of mental errors or worn out players. I agree 6-7 games is my thought. Parsons is the question mark, we will need to get to him.

What caused Carlisle to flip on Gaymes? Proud of Gaymes for taking it like a champ and not interacting. What a disappointing way to end your OA season. 😅

Kitchener will be a tough one, but should be a fun one as well. Even split in the regular season. Chance at Revenge for a couple years ago in the playoffs…

Assuming we get Thursday/Saturday as 1 & 2?

Gotta give the Refs credit for making the calls on the dirty plays of the Soo. 6 pp goals is a real feat.
Best reffing all series. Not that it says much. But it was the most under control game all series. Now the linesmen, yikes. Drop the damn puck. Nesbitt and Allard had to both be booted half a dozen times tonight. What the hells going on 😂

Hopefully Woodall can rebound in a week. That was off the high stick w/blood? Maybe stitches/swelling? You’d hope that would be good to go in 6 Days with a Cage or Fishbowl. Hope it’s not more serious.

The story for Round 2 is The Offense of the Spits vs the Goaltending of Parsons. Best goalie in the conference IMO, right up there with George.

Get the second and third line chipping in, I think we have a good shot.

Curious on Spellacy as well. Heard he’d be back tonight with Christo a maybe… got the reverse.

Good to see Lemieux back. Can contribute a little bit offensively, also a tough player, that’s normal sized so his hits don’t always result in a crime scene with 2-5 minutes of jail time.

Congrats to the Spits on their playoff series win over the Hounds.
A couple days rest and back to work for the next round against a tougher opponent in the Kitchener Rangers.
Nice to see Windsor's PP come to life, going 6-9 on the PP.
Protas,Greentree and Morneau line on fire 41 points between the 3 of them during the 5 game match.
Costanzo allows only 11 goals,2.15 average and a 915 save percentage.
Will add more later on.

One thing I meant to win after last night's clinching series win,Windsor now 13-0 in their last 13 home games,10 regular season and the last 3 home playoff games, have not lost at home since Feb 5 vs Saginaw ,very impressive has made up for a poor road record 3-6--2-1 in their last 12.

That was a fun game. Some thoughts...

- Jumping out to the lead was key. If you let the Soo into the game from the start, you're looking at potential overtime and then anything is possible after that.
- Nesbitt's goal was a beauty. I wish they were able to get moves like that on the road.
- Greentree promptly making it 2-0... *chefs kiss*
- I want to see a replay of the ensuing cross-check because I just saw Costello go down without any reason why. That said, a very dumb move by the Soo.
- Windsor's been working on their PP and it showed.
- The SHG... it's tough to blame anyone on that. The outlet pass missed Cristoforo and, before he could get to it, the Hounds had it and immediately pushed it up the ice for an odd-man rush. It's unfortunate but...
- Protas responding two minutes later was needed to snuff out any momentum.
- Allowing a goal with 0.1s left in a period is odd... and it gave the Hounds some momentum. Props for their no-look pass, though.
- Windsor seemed far too nonchalant in the second and I believe Greentree admitted they were too comfortable in the period. I don't like that but I'd imagine it's tough to keep the same drive when you're up 6-2.
- Nice move by Abraham for his late goal. I'm surprised nobody took him; seems like a fairly easy move to stop if you're a d-man.
- Cristoforo with a near 200-foot open net... and rings it off the post. I'm not sure you could pay him to do that again. But, nice to see Greentree get the hatty with the rebound.

- I haven't heard anything about Woodall but hopefully he's okay. Looked like a facial thing.
- Solid game by Costanzo. It's hard to argue his stats right now - 2.15 and .915. We wanted to see pre-Christmas Joey and we've got it.
- 11 points for the top line, 12 players with a point in general... what more can you ask for? Nice to see Robinson get his first assist, too. He looked comfortable out there and they protected him well.
- Props to Gaymes for not going with Carlisle. He's become a bit of a pest and is as disciplined as I've seen. Carlisle did himself no favours and, really, that's a sad way to end your OHL career. Ask Gaymes if he wants to go, drop the gloves, wait for him, then go.

- solid effort by the Soo. That's going to be a fun team to watch next season. Now, let's get healed up and get ready for Kitchener. The schedule just came out and it's basically identical to Soo - Thurs, Sat, Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun, Tues.
