Windsor Spitfires 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iv

Christoforo sure does take a lot of flack on here but you do see the consequences when he is not in the lineup.

Putting Walton with Kennedy did not seem to be a good fit. I'd have Hicks with Kennedy. Hicks is better at moving the puck foward. Walton is all about the boards and out. Walton and Woodall work better. But Walters does not always consult me on these things, lol.

Really only 8 ohl caliber forwards last night. Need to get some of these guys back.

Impressed with Gaymes on not bitting on the fight offer. Forget the Soo player but he dropped his gloves and tried to get Gaymes involved. Always thought that was an unsportsmanlike penalty but last night really was hard to tell what was a penalty? Apparently high sticking was not a penalty, but I degress, lol. Be safe.
so many calls either missed or just dismissed. on both sides. protas gets blatantly high sticked. Martin visciously crosschecked in the back and hit his head on the boards. like i get putting the whistles away but need to make sure the right calls are made to protect the kids. the more they get away with, the more they push it, and that's when someone gets hurt.

i love the rough game and always have, but at some point calls need to be made to ensure nobody crosses a line. happy nobody got hurt last night.

cheers.

I’m sure it’s not ridiculous for her but the franchise is what? Like 50 times removed from those owners and management and coaches? The only thing even remotely attached is the logo. Those involved? Different story.
I kinda have similar thoughts to it. A shame that it happened, but news headlines are clickbaiting people into thinking it was recent.

I don’t think there’s anyone even remotely close to the team still involved from 84’?

Again, not dismissing the claims, or saying it’s right, or okay, just a shame the Spitfires name is being dragged thru the mud, given the fact it doesn’t involve anyone in my lifetime of watching OHL hockey.

41 years is alot of time to pass. I am not belittling the situation especially for the victim. Wonder why the current team ownership is named in the suit and not the owners at the time? Was it a team organized party? I doubt it from the Star detailed article. The culture today and 41 years ago is night and day thankfully. I'll pass judgement when it goes to court and facts come out. Nonetheless the Spitfires name will be news for the wrong reasons. Back to hockey of today. Go Spits!

Right if that was your wife having issues dealing with a past traumatic experience. Or your daughter dealing with a past experience I would hope you wouldn't count down the days of how long ago it happened. There's no statue of limitations for sexual assault here. Obviously the chances of any evidence to charge people won't happen in most circumstances. This is an opportunity for this person to have their voice be heard and for individuals involved to face their consequences whatever they may be.

I realize people will talk about the time span involved but there's so much more involved with that. Two years ago here there was a 50 year old cold case murder solved of a young girl. Her parents now know who did it. They don't get joy out of it but the family now has closure and that's the goal.

This. What happened to her, assuming it's all true, is horrific and I can't imagine what she's going through or what it takes for a recovery from that. I hope she's able to get the healing and closure that her and her family need.

That said, the current Spitfires' organization isn't the same one in any way, shape, or form, as the one back then. If she wants to go after people, go after the ones who ran the organization at the time.

I agree with all of this. The only issue I have is why sue the current owners for 3.5 million? Maybe sue the actual perpetrators?

This has to deal with successor liability. It's quite common this happens in organizations because organizations take over the assets and liabilities from past ownership. There is also the chance that new information has come to light where current ownership has some type of relationship with the existing act that we aren't aware of.

I don't this as that. Would not be a Spitfire organized event.
If 6 McDonald's employees have a house party and something bad happens is McDonald's liable for that? I think not. The perpetrators should be held accountable for this awful event. Not the organization they are affiliated with.

I am merely speaking to what the law states. When you purchase a business or buy a franchise you assume all existing and past debts and obligations regardless of how far into the past it goes. The only way to avoid this is to dissolve the business or organization.

A different example of this would be the idea behind probate. Say ABC no longer has contact with his parents (DEF). ABC is the beneficiary when DEF pass. Before you take ownership ABC will have to pay any existing or past debts of DEF. You had zero idea about this because of 20 years but you still have to assume liability for that.

Remember this will always have different interpretation depending on the judge. This law has been around since the 70s and has been adjusted since then.

Not going to be able to watch tonight and apparently Friday either. I will keep checking my phone lol. Really hoping they get some players back and a good result tonight.

At the start of the year I was hoping they made the playoffs and got at least 1 playoff win. Now they have exceeded that so need to set the bar higher! I have no idea where they will end up ( especially this short staffed) but for me this is all bonus hockey now. Memorial Cup or bust might seem like a lofty goal but hey that is what all players and teams still in it should be playing for. Time will tell. Be safe.

Typically civil suits name everyone they can possibly implicate and then see what sticks. I'm surprised the billets were not included. The new ownership did not buy the team from the compuware ownership around that time. Several owners in-between. Claims against a business is usually product liability or environmental issues that carry over. I'm sure current ownership had an indemnity clause in their purchase agreement that does give some protection against a previous ownership actions.

Another question to ponder. The police havent been notified or included in this. Purely a civil suit. No ones shared the lawsuit with those that can inflict penalties resulting in jail time. That is very odd to me.

Just a heads up, Mackinaw Bridge has been closed (off and on for the last few days) with current snow/ice storm just starting to hit, expected to be a bad weather day Thursday, wondering if Friday's game 5 will be in jeopardy as I believe both teams will have a tough time travelling Thursday. Keep an eye out for that.

Interesting, ice storms in April lol. Just checked the SOO weather, only precipitation for Thursday is 1-2 am, and it will be 4 degrees Celsius all day Thursday. Should not be an issue

The Mackinaw Bridge is the problem. With falling ice from the temperatures thawing out from the weekend storm. Check the news. Upper Michigan is running out fuel with gas stations not receiving deliveries.

The bridge has been closed for the last 16 hours.

From the videos and photos I've seen, there is a ton of ice on the cables and rails. I honestly have no idea if it'll reopen before the weekend. Temps are supposed to be upper single digits but that could just allow for more melting and falling.

down south supposed to get hit harder than we are.. that route will not be safer but there’s no bridge so it’s possible. Down south had no power for days after the last one.

Postpone the game and play it Saturday if they can’t get over.

Hopefully Windsor plays like they did in game 1 n 2.
Game not going to be just handed to them.
Have to put in the effort..
