Windsor Spitfires 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iv

McNamara injured in the 1st and has not returned. Spits are insanely shorthanded now without McNamara, Spellacy, Cristoforo, to add to the Mathurina and Belchetz injuries. They are playing this game with basically 9 forwards.

Refs not calling anything on the Hounds. Even the SOO announcers are pointing it out.
Put whistles away for both teans.
Every ref sees game differently
If they started with 12 forwards to start the game and lose 1. 9 forwards??

The officials putting the whistles away is about normal for the league. They'll make 10 calls next period to even it out. That said, the Soo announcers commenting that their own team deserved a penalty... that's impressive.

Defensive, physical game. It's about what I expected. Not great for the anxiety but...

Finish a bit of an issue as well. Protas, Abraham and Greentree all misfiring on empty net shots.

Protas takes a nasty high stick, no penalty. Refs letting a hook or something go is one thing, but not calling violent high sticks is another.

Edit. Penalty on Greentree, SOO announcer: "That is not a penalty". SOO scored on the PP. I haven't complained about the reffing all season but this game has been a joke.

After they showed it again soo announcer did say it was a penalty.
And the protas took a high stick.

Money line comes thru again in the clutch and took the wind right out of the sails of the Sault ste marie Faithful and their players. Hope that momentum for the spits can go on over to OT and finish quick.

Good effort with all of these players out. Costanzo playing solid, close game, soo came to play hockey tonight but hope we can seal a W here and put the stranglehold on this series, time will tell bur fingers crossed this spitfires team comes out strong!!

Go Spitfires!!!

The linesmen have been letting the Spits dump the puck from their blue line all night so I guess it’s even🤷‍♀️. Hell of a game. This is more what we expected as Soo fans, just to give some fight. You guys have so much firepower/danger up front. Cheers and enjoy OT.

Atrocious calls both ways. Can’t imagine either teaming is happy about it.

Spits would have to grind this one out. Not many guys sharing ice

Hard to be to upset with the defeat considering the injuries. If Spellacy and Cristoforo are back for game 3 , Spits should be able to win this series in five games. Missed some open nets a few times, normally those go in

3-2 Soo final.

Am I upset? No. The Soo has played Windsor well at home all season and I fully expected this to be a far closer game than G1/2. I said as much on here. Get Spellacy, Cristoforo, or whoever else back for Wednesday and go for it again. I'm not concerned, just accepting that this won't be the quick series I've heard people talk about.

Everyone played well tonight. Shots were even, Costanzo was great in goal. With that many players out, the effort was there. Props to the Soo for getting the job done. Now, win on Wednesday and go from there.

Windsor could of played alot better.
Showed it in other games.
Passengers..

Stupid benvh minor cant happen this time of year. Especially in OT. I'd be surprised if Spellacy or Cristoforo are ready Wednesday but hoping. if injury is bad enough to be keep them out tonight with an already short bench, I dont see less than 48 hours later they are ready to go. Next game is critical. Playing the hell out of the same guys doesn't work if this series goes long. Bad time for injury bug. Credit Soo they played much better as expected.they would after the NA-NA chants last game. I know that would fire me up. Even game in shots can go either way. Goaltending good both ends. Really a tough playoff game the Spits need to maintain a sharp focus. Let's get it back Wednesday boys! Go Spits

I'm sorry but to win in this league, you need at least 3 but really 4 good lines. We have one pairing that pairs with another winger every other game and no set lines after that. It is always a surprise who plays with who every game , every shift. Yes there are injuries that require a substitution but man why have we not figured out line combinations at this time of the year?

we know Tree likes to play with protas
but who plays well with Nesbit ?
Do you have an energy line that forechecks hard and creates turnovers ?
Do you have a shutdown line that can match and contain the other teams o ?

Sorry guys don't mean to be down , but this team in capable of so much more. Very frustrating.

Having nine guys who can play with nine other guys isn't a bad thing. I know people want set lines, no matter what, but having guys shift around allows for injuries/suspensions because "(player) is out? Just shift (another player) into that spot and they're still fine together."

I mean, they were missing their #1 and #2 defenseman. If they get Cristoforo back (who plays 25 minutes per game) and Spellacy back there is no reason to think they won't win the series.
Christoforo sure does take a lot of flack on here but you do see the consequences when he is not in the lineup.

Putting Walton with Kennedy did not seem to be a good fit. I'd have Hicks with Kennedy. Hicks is better at moving the puck foward. Walton is all about the boards and out. Walton and Woodall work better. But Walters does not always consult me on these things, lol.

Really only 8 ohl caliber forwards last night. Need to get some of these guys back.

Impressed with Gaymes on not bitting on the fight offer. Forget the Soo player but he dropped his gloves and tried to get Gaymes involved. Always thought that was an unsportsmanlike penalty but last night really was hard to tell what was a penalty? Apparently high sticking was not a penalty, but I degress, lol. Be safe.
