Was at the game and was wondering why the Spitfire trainer running the forward bench door kept grabbing our players and pushing them back on the bench after chirping the other teams players bench. Emotions are high and i wouldnt think its the trainers job to keep peace.

It's likely whoever is there will hold the players back, whether that's a coach or trainer.

I was very impressed with Hicks tonight. He just gets better and better. He does not look like a 16yo rookie. He is anything but soft and rarely gets caught out of position. He delivered some solid checks tonight, stood up for a teammate and pulled McNamara out of getting himself a stupid penalty near the end of the game. Definately will be wearing a letter in the future. Could be Greentree's successor as Captain

What kind of suspension are your guys expecting for Spellacy, if at all? They have been pretty consistent in suspending head checks on players without the puck throughout the regular season, but the playoffs have a different standard, of course.

None at all.
Well at least it shouldn't be on that particular play.

Having seen the replay, two minutes was justified. Will they give him a game? I doubt it.

Good way to pull out a game 1 victory Great first 20 then Battled thru some adversity there in the second after the spits score that quick goal and the Soo started to put that pressure on and climb back into the game but was nice to see this team catch their composure at the end of the second and turn around their play to have a good third period to finish the game off on a high.

As someone mentioned sucks to hear about Belchetz officially. The play didn't look that bad just bad luck the way he slid into the boards, him and Mathurin will surely be missed. Was nice to see a few guys step up and be that secondary support that's much needed in the playoffs. Our stars and best players were just that, and if they play like that more games then not we are winning. Costanzo wasn't stellar but he didn't need to be, he did his part and made the saves that needed to be made.

Onto Game #2, gotta take it up a notch because you got to anticipate that the greyhounds are going to come out on a mission to get a win before heading back north for game #3. If the spits can match what they did in game one and maybe tighten up defensively a bit, they have a solid chance to go up 2 games. Time will tell.

This is what I was trying to figure out. If the helmet comes off, it's almost always blown down immediately. No glove, they wait? I wasn't sure if that was supposed to happen or the officials were being weird.
Can’t hide a head like you can a hand tho. Plus if it gets blown dead to lose a glove then you would see more goalies losing gloves to get plays blown dead.

Right you don't penalize the offensive team if they have an opportunity. If there's no chance blow it dead. Stolarz lost his glove and grabbed the puck with his hand earlier in the year. Sometimes you got to risk it for the biscuit.

Officiating was weird. Everything went in the first. Morneau boarded pretty good, nothing. I wasn’t mad about it, until they started calling random crap throughout the game.

Sucks hearing about Belchetz, and Mathurin. Hopefully, we can get a deep playoff run. With Protas, anything is possible lol.

Hoping tomorrow they come out of the gate ready and not complacent. Yesterday Erie scoring an 8 spot in the 2nd period surprising Saginaw. Yes, we should win this series handily on paper but every minute counts to achieve that. Kitchener needed a 3rd period goal to beat Flint in another tight game. My wife says some maybe need to have it written with crayons to understand to not over pinch when you are on top with a lead. The next round will not be easy so set a pattern now.

Not to surprised with London and Windsor’s game 1’s, didn’t expect them AS lopsided, but not surprised.

I am a bit shocked Flint gave Kitchener a hard time in the Aud tonight, and find it odd Erie’s up 1-0 without Terrance and Schafer. I’ve heard rumblings both could return this series.

Saginaw’s been so hot lately, I expected them to roll over Erie and give London a fit as well.

In for an exciting first round. Assuming Joey gets the nod tomorrow, with a similar lineup. Maybe Gaymes or Robinson out for Lemieux if he’s ready. (Can we dress 4 08’s in playoffs? Or still 3?)

With Oke out, Saginaw has goaltending issues. I must say that I have never seen someone give up 8 goals in a period and not be pulled.

4 08s can be dressed.

I believe that tonight will be a lot tighter more defensive style game but could be wrong. I'm sure the Greyhounds know there not going to out run and gun the spitfires on most nights so wouldn't doubt if they Try and lock it down defensively infront of their net minder and play a more physical game to try and throw the spitfires off.

If the spits come out like the first period in game #1, that's the start they need. As mentioned by others the real task for this spitfires is not getting complacent. Need to roll out a strong gameplan every game in the playoffs and not let up, gotta have that Dog mentality in the playoffs.

Excited for game #2 tho and hope we see a strong effort and no let up. Will be huge to head north up two games to none.

Go Spits Go.!!

Came out strong. The disallowed goal really got to them, some pretty sloppy play. That said damn they came out in the 3rd!
Joey was solid tonight, lets hope it brings the confidence back.
Looks like theyve been forbidden to fight.
Gonna be a very long bus ride home for the Soo!
Refs were perplexing yet again.

Hicks has been stellar. Garden seems to be coming into his own as well. Great game.

Credit given where Credit due: Joey Costanzo.

Made some big saves tonight, notably the penalty shot. Misses that we’re 2-2, instead it’s 2-1 going into intermission. Wasn’t named a star or ‘player of the game’ but was outstanding tonight. Only goal allowed was a 5 on 3 tap in from the top of the crease. 24 saves tonight.

Good for Morneau getting the Hatty. Gotta work you tail off to make a team as a 15th round pick, and he’s proved time and time again, he has been deserving of the OA Spot.

Credit to Walters as well. Good matchups out there, and keeping 37 & 66 off the ice the last 10 minutes. Soo’s been taking some runs at Protas. When the games out of reach, keep the key guys out of reach.

I think there will Be a day this spring I’m disappointed in how it ended, but right now, it’s a pretty good high off a 7-1 win. If the Soo win a game, it’s going to be Game 3.

A dominating win again in game two. Constanzo was outstanding. When he is in a groove, he can be one of the best goalies in the OHL, his confidence should be huge now. Great save on the penalty shot.

Carter Hicks on that 2nd goal was unreal. Lead the rush up the ice and tapped it in. Gonna be a 1st or 2nd round pick in the 2026 NHL draft. Garden another rookie, was solid, ton of skill and good vision.

Spits are doing what a #2 seed should be doing in the 1st round, but I'm seeing plenty of good signs that could result in an extended playoff run. Not sure anyone can match that first line of Greentree Protas and Morneau. Protas now at 31 points in his past 9 games.

Yes, it was a sauna in there tonight, the air was broken. It was uncomfortable, and the puck was bouncing. Great crowd, very into the game as expected. Even had a 'kick him out' chant on the hit on Cristoforo. Not sure why Reid is getting booed every time he touches the puck? the heck?

Spits improve to 31-4-1 at home this season.

The series isn't over, SOO will have some confidence due to heading back into their barn, need to keep up the same determined play.
