Windsor Spitfires 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iv

My thoughts - fun to get those wins but both teams sitting players.
Real happy to see secondary scoring.
Robinson looks very promising. Looks like a real solid 08 draft class.
Eichler has had 2 fairly solid games with his role elevated.
Greentree showing solid leadership on the ice. A bit over zealous on the last hit so needs to dial that stuff back a bit. Not sure that would be called in the playoffs? Got his 49th but hope the team goal is not to get him to 50. That becomes a distraction to team play and systems. IF he is not suspended then I would play him Thursday to give him a shot but it is a must to sit him Friday. Too much of a risk with nothing on the line. IF he is suspended then the rest will do him some good and he will come back on a mission.

My comments from yesterday still stand. I'm very concerned about playoff intensity and goaltending for this year. Yesterday was an easy game to get up for. Will we see the same Thursday? I sure hope so.
And of course the first shot of 4 of the last 6 games has gone in. That is disheartening for a team. I not sure I've ever seen a coach pull a goalie after the first shot/goal before but at least Walters recognizes he needs to do something to get his goalie engaged in the game from the get go. I cringe everytime the other team crosses over the blueline. That is not a confidence builder.
I would start Joey Thursday to " show " confidence but it would also be less pressure on the kid. He needs to get his mojo back. Let Froggett have the start on Friday.

Looking forward to the playoffs and may not know until Sunday who they play. Be safe.

Windsor beat the Knights.
Game didn't mean much other than pride.
Secondly scoring was nice.
Good crowd.
Bad pr with green shirts.
Joey was average at best again.
5 goals is never enough. That's can't be acceptable for this team.

Nice bounce back vs London after the loss at Saginaw the night before especially with best forward Protas, 2 best D Christoforo and Mathurin out of the lineup against a rested squad, then trailing 2-0 after 1 before outscoring London 8-3,with the help of 2 empty netters while London was missing 1D,Bonk,2 forwards O'Reilly and Barkey,Windsor also missing Lemieux, Garden and Outwater aside from the 2 top D and 1 forward I mentioned earlier, showed great depth and resolve despite the slow start by Costanzo.
Got to mention Woodall, Walton and Kennedy have upped their game on the backend, Woodall with 9 points in his last 6 games.
Fans were certainly into it especially after the 1st,when Windsor was by far the better team the rest of the night.
Spits only team to beat London 3 times this year, all in Windsor,in fact despite Windsor's road troubles lately 1-4-1-2 in their last 8,they are also 9-0 at home in the same stretch.
Interesting in those 9 home games Windsor has scored 57 goals.
As for this week,1st against Sarnia I would play Costanzo, then Froggett Friday at London as he has played well vs London this season.
Thursday I expect Christoforo and Protas back in the lineup, Greentree as well should not be suspended, and if all goes well ie Greentree getting his 50th,I would sit Christoforo, Protas, Greentree, Mathurin and Outwater already out, hopefully Garden and Lemieux back in, on Friday at London to finish regular season.

Joey showed some serious lack of respect! Yes it was a bad goal, but the D didnt clear again. Yes he allowed a few more later in the game that were bad as well. Id have parked him but i think theres more to this. Not sure Walters has full control of some decisions. That display from a player should have landed him in the showers! This obviously has been simmering and couldnt boil over at a worse time. Id have all 4 goalies with the team as soon as possible

At least 25 to 30 people were more than happy yesterday as they all should of received parking tickets for illegal parking.
Wouldn't press their luck too many times though. And then be angry afterwards why they got 1..

As the saying goes if you have 4 goalies you actually have 0.

At this point, I feel Froggett is the better goalie, but he has yet to put together back-to-back solid games. I think Costanzo has taken himself out of an OA spot for next year. His play was doing it, but pissing off the coach probably finalized it. Though he won the game, 5 goals on 22 shots is a very poor performance, especially when I felt 3 of the goals were very weak.

The defence played well, allowing only 22 shots, especially considering Costanzo and Mathurin were out. Woodall, Walton and Hicks have improved during the year, while Robinson hasn't looked out of place in his 3 games. Kennedy looks like a solid OA for next year.

With Protas out, 7 goals from players not named Greentree is very positive. Nesbitt and Davis both scoring 2 goals was huge. McNamara had a beautiful goal, which is one of the few times he has stood out. If he can show more of that, he might get OA consideration which he hasn't deserved any consideration to date.

I continue to be impressed with the 08 class. They have 7 signed and they all appear to have a bright future. Unfortunately, if the Spits go for the league championship next year, some of these will have to be traded to fill out the team with experienced players. The 25-26 season has been targeted as the go for it season, but the 27-28 team could be much better.

Walton's ENG was absolutely sick. Total luck, but incredible to watch.
