5-4 Ottawa final. Shots were 40-19 Windsor but ... that's not where it counts. You can't get outworked that badly early and then expect to come back, doesn't matter where the opponents are in the standings. Get home, get back to work, and see Kingston on Thurs. Want the division title? Get it at home!

Hopefully Mathurin isn't out long-term. They don't need that and neither does he. Maybe the league will look at it? Wouldn't be the first time they've checked on minor penalties.

Getting the division title is a nice accomplishment and will happen soon.
However if u don't play defense, u will be in trouble

Folks, we definitively have a goaltending issue. Joey since Christmas has been the Joey that many if us wanted moved/releases prior to the regular season Frogett steady but not a whole lot better. Better bring in Newlove or Windbiel or both. 1st round win could easily be an issue. All that hard work and effort for 1st half of season is being pissed away. Only 3 wins in last 8 games is not good this time of year.

They need to give Froggett more playing time because Costanzo is not getting it done. They should also take a further look at Newlove. I don't think that Constanzo should be the Number 1 next year, so they need to see if it will be Froggett or Newlove can take over for next year. Windbiel should be the backup next year and hopefully become Number 1 over the following 2 seasons. Long term, I think he will be the best, but don't ruin him by rushing him.

The alternative for next year would be to trade for a top 05 or 06. The problem is Windbiel would probably be the cost.

Agree 👍 Joey not worthy of an OA spot as per current play.

Spits have double or nearly doubled their opponent in shots in 3 of their past 4 defeats.

Out shot Sarnia 46-24 lost in OT,
Out shot Flint 40-39 lost
Out shot Kingston 38-21 lost
Out shot Ottawa 40-19 lost.

I refuse to blame this on the defense when you are only giving up 20 or so shots. Goaltending has been a disaster. Like I already said, they will win the 1st round but the 2nd round is 50/50 at best only bc the Spits have home ice.

Question on Newlove, when his season is done, isn't he able to play for the Spits the rest of the season with no limit on games? He only played two games but they were on the road and he looked sharp, winning against Erie and Niagara.

Now we know this team can get the job done even with shaky goaltending. They are 2-0 at home vs. London, lead the season series vs. Kitchener, swept the season series vs. Brampton and Brantford and lead the season series against Saginaw. Just need better goaltending.

Looking at today, for example...

One goal, Mathurin let the guy get past him. Costanzo tried but a backhand upstairs is impressive.
One goal, it was a back-door play that Costanzo couldn't do much about.
One goal, all alone in front of Costanzo.

There's no question that Joey needed to be better and I'm sure he would admit that. But, if your defence allows goals like that, 20 shots or not, you have to be better.

I believe so? I don't know that they would bring him in unless there's an injury to Joey or Froggett, but once any Jr A/B team is done, I believe you can bring up players.

Not good when they leave the opposition wide open.
Don't clear out front of net.

Do not confuse shots with scoring. Quality chances maybe.
Yes our D is still not good, but im honestly tired of saying it!! BB is smarter than everyone just ask him…
Not sure whats happening with Joey but hes got a confidence issue, no question. Its time to roll with the other guys to see who goes hot.
Time for the staff to settle on some lines and make some decisions.
Hard to stay focused?!?! Im sorry but this isnt house league hockey, every game matters! Every shift, 60 minutes, try to win every battle, thats what great teams do.

Joey’s been looking shaky to say the least.

We had early Joey, from Niagara who looked great. Then we had last season Joey, that I was hoping was just reflective of a bad team and coaching staff. Looked like that turned around first half this season with Stan. Then Christmas break happened and we’re back to the 23/24 version.

Yes, next year is the goal. But if we want to win, we can’t just flip a coin on which version of him we’re going to get next year.

There’s a lot of mental aspects that go into goaltending, and it takes a lot of time to lock that down sometimes, as clearly good and bad games can snowball.

As far as I’m concerned, aside from Kennedy, we have two OA spots next year, and the goaltending needs to be addressed.

Luckily, we have some depth with Windbiel and Newlove. Unfortunately, I don’t see anyone giving those guys the proper shot this year as we sit in second as there’s a fear to disrupt things too much.

We’re running out of time, but it almost feels like giving Joey a couple weeks off, Froggett the majority, and alternating our younger goalies to see what they have, could work wonders. But if Joey’s where he is now, imagine his confidence after being out of game action for a couple weeks. I feel for the kid, but I just don’t see the future we want with him in net.

Prior to end the end of his season , he came play unlimited if Bowler still has an A card left. If no A card remaining, he could in theory still play a 7 games prior to his team being finished for thier season.

They will go with the goalies they have. They won't bring either rookie up unless the Spits have fixed their playoff spot and want to rest either goalie and they can use the rookie as a backup.
The heavy rumor in January that the Spits were trying to find an established goalie at the trade deadline. Gillespie would have been a nice fit for example.
I'm afraid the Spits will have to play with the cards they have.
They will need/must out score this issue or it will be a quick finish to the season.
If Mathurin goes down it's an even steeper slope.
I professed my nervousness a while back and nothing has changed and if anything it is getting worse.
They have been playing/coasting to 500 hockey. That mindset is hard to shake. The schedule to end the year is one of the toughest in the league. Hope for the best I guess. Be safe.

On another note I sure hope tomorrow's software update goes better than the last one. Talk on the other side.
