Aready we are worried about match ups, basically because we are starting to struggle against better teams. Our PP keeps sliding. Kitchener is no slouch, we know Saginaw is playing great now, Erie right there as well and road games there are never easy. Second round to advance we need to tighten up quickly or first round could be a struggle. Goaltending has been iffy and scoring has been drying in general and worse for guys like Nesbitt and Davis. Time to pull the socks up.
Last 4 games Spits have outscored the opposition 20-9,and have outscored the opposition 13-3,5 on 5 in the same stretch.
No issue with the goaltending lately by both goalies to be honest special teams could be better though they held the highest scoring team in the league to 0 PP goals Saginaw the other on 4 opps, also have scored 2 shorties in the last 4 games.
Despite the 20 goals in the last 4 games none from Davis,Spellacy, and Nesbitt, and only 1 from Abraham.
Windsor vs Owen Sound today, don't take them for granted and Windsor should win.
Owen Sound trails Sarnia by a point for last playoff spot using their game in hand today.
Spits are 3-0-1 in their last 4,Owen Sound 2-2.
My guess is that Mathurin, Costello and Winegard are out,1st 2 injured and Froggett starts.
Go Spits Go

Sarnia is up 4 on OS. OS is 1 point behind Soo for 8th. Also cherry picking 4 games when 15 of those 20 goals are against Sarnia we should have some context.

Got the scratches right,Costanzo gets the start.
Interesting stat,Spits are 27-2-2 -1 when the opposition scores 3 or less, excluding empty netters.
Also the Spits are 10-10-1 when the opposition has scored 4 or more excluding empty netters.

If you allow less goals you have a better chance to win. Interesting.

I'll go out on a limb and say stats show when you score more goals you have a better chance of winning also.

A few thoughts...

- First, well done by the Spitfires to have a Family Day ceremony with the billets, along with "forever 18" scrolling across the jumbotron during it. That's an appropriate passing of the torch, if you will.
- Owen Sound isn't a bad team and, if George is on his game, you're in for a tough night.
- Fortunately, the Spitfires' D came to play and Costanzo was dynamite. The one goal was more on the forwards not taking Leonard, but one mistake isn't that big of a deal.
- Windsor kept the OS forwards to the outside for the most part. The Attack had a few chances inside and Costanzo did his thing.
- Great goal by Lemieux; nice pass from Eichler and it's in. Greentree with a beauty five-hole; kind of appropriate that the captain scores a big goal on in this game.
- Protas into the EN. His 37th of the season. He needs three more to become the Spitfires' all-time single-season Import leader for goals. Kuhnhackl had 39 back in the day.
- Cristoforo now has a career high in points and +/-. He and Greentree are 1/2 in the league for that.
- Greentree needs eight points for 100!
- It would be really nice if Gaymes could stop stirring up thing that don't need it. I like his physical side but, man, minor penalty after minor penalty doesn't make sense.
- I'll always appreciate Greentree's enthusiasm while defending teammates to officials.
- Sarnia, Flint, Saginaw - road Fri, road Sat, home Sun. Busy weekend coming up before the always-fun eastern swing.
- Now 16 points up on Saginaw with 14 games left each. I still don't think it'll be easy as Saginaw's on a roll but get the points and keep going. If the Spirit win out, the Spitfires need 13 points in 14 games to take the division.
- Sounds like Abraham is hopeful for Friday with an upper body (nothing specified). I don't know much about Costello or Mathurin; hoping the best on both.

Good win. No doubt. They deserved it and got it. Great job!! Concerns at this stage is PP Beating teams we should is not a real feather in the cap. 2nd round potential against a Saginaw or Erie is a scary thought also consider Owen Sound is only 4 points from 7th with all those games George missed while at the WJC camp and tournament .

Sort of a boring game, but a solid win. Carter George is something else, he made some miraculous saves that most goalies would not save. Kept his team in the game.

Really not a whole lot to say about that one. OS has some good young players. Good crowd of 5,500.

Hopefully Abraham and Mathurin are back this weekend. 3 games in 2.5 days this weekend so I would maybe sit them on Friday and have them ready for Saturday and Sunday. Maybe Greentree could hit 100 at home on Sunday. Cristoforo nearing a +50 rating, some say it's a meaningless stat but when you have a +50 rating, you are an asset on the ice.

Again, going to finish 2nd in the conference so it's primarily about avoiding serious injury and keep playing the game the right way before playoffs.

SOO and OS are coming on, there is a chance we could play one of them in the 1st round instead of Sarnia if they keep struggling. I'd prefer Sarnia.

I watched the game last night and to be fair until Greentree scored it wasn't a decided game yet. Costanzo was solid. Eichler with one of his better games.
You can see team defense has been a focus. Playing much better in their own end. It will be put to the test this weekend. Their last 3 in 3 weekend. Followed by a taxing road trip.

If they truly have a shot to catch London they would have to sweep this weekend. That is a tough ask.

Scoreboard watching is in full mode now. To be fair I think any 1st round opponent will not be easy but the team they don't want to face is Flint or if they take a tumble Saginaw. Neither are likely but both those teams have had the Spits number this year. Hence a tough weekend coming up. Be safe.

To your point re defense Spits now 4-0-1 in their last 5 games and have allowed only 10 and have outscored the opposition 16-4,5 on 5 during this stretch.
Spits now 9-0-2 when Mathurin not in the lineup.
Greentree leads the team with 12 points in the last 5,Morneau has 10 points including 6G,Protas 9 points, and Christoforo has 7 points from the back end.
Team depth impressive Spellacy has 0 points in his last 5 and Davis has just 2.
Costanzo has allowed 8 goals in 4 games played and Froggett 2 goals in 1 game played.
Work needed on Special teams overall though no PP goals allowed last 2 games.

This is kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. If you win, you should have beat them. If you lose, it's a kick to the ahems. It's not a feather in the cap to win, but you still need the points.
I don't believe this is one of those situations. They pretty much had 1st place locked up by the deadline. They haven't been bad since the deadline but Saginaw who sold off have played much better as well. Spits have been concentrating on D a bit more but against teams over .500 since the deadline the scoring has dried up.

London 1
Sudbury 6
Barrie 1
Oshawa 1
Brampton 5
London 4
Saginaw 3
Brantford 3
Saginaw 2

Since the deadline 15 GP
Nesbitt 1g 8a
Abraham 4g 5a
Davis 9GP 0g 6a
Spellacy 2g 1a
McNamara 2g 1a

That's 5 of your 11-12 forwards 4 of them being veteran guys. This has to change because if they're not scoring it will have to be Greentree-Protas-Morneau. Hard to expect much from Garden/Lemieux/Gaymes/Costello/ Belchetz has been fine this year still tough to expect much overall. Bowler bet on guys like McNamara sticking with Davis/Abraham/Spellacy. Still time to contribute and make an impact but it hasn't been a good 15 games for that group.

My comment had nothing to do with any scoring drying up or how good/bad Saginaw has played. We know they've played well with Parekh, Misa, and Chernyshov leading the way (along with Oke). We know Windsor had a few games where they struggled. But that wasn't where the conversation was going here. It was simply that it doesn't matter what you do against a lower-seeded team, you're not in a position to "win" with some. If you beat them, you're supposed to so meh. If you lose, how do you lose to a lower-seeded team, (insert analysis here).

Playing both sides of fence.
Seems familiar..
